How many Safetys in the nation can cover SEC receivers one on one? Maybe a hand full. You expect us to have them year end year out? They are safetys for a reason or they would be cornerbacks.

Safetys are not the problem the scheme of putting them on jitter bug type slot recievers is the problem!

I am just glad that Taylor is graduating. Again I think it was a case of Miles being too loyal to seniors allowing C. Taylor to play in the final two games. D. McCray should have been playing. He is a much better safety than nickelback.

I agree with this. Taylor was benched several times over the last few games and continued to start for some reason. :dis:

coleman has also missed a lot of tackles this seasn. McCray actually has played better at safety than he has played in the nickel back position. Someone posted it earlier but we Linebackers!!! We also need Jai Eugene to step up and be the player he is suppossed to be so Chris Hawkins can come in and be the nickel back.

I think that they're being asked to cover receivers longer than they should be required to do so. A pass rush is needed to be able to let these guys play well.

Exactly, LSU had no pass rush all year do to the prevent, play it safe defense scheme that the multi DC's came up with to try to stop teams from
Scoring. The only thing that happened was teams ran up over and around while Also throwing on a team being coached not to lose instead of winning. Steltz and landry really couldn't cover great but they laid the wood just like Coleman and taylor. Those past great safeties blitzed and covered when the d-line was the aggresser. Until miles learns to stronghold opponents with lsu's talent and be the ruthless coach of the sec the tiger defense will look slower an confused as it has ever been

You are right in that LSU has no pass rush so often times they were forced to cover longer than is possible. A lot of that falls on coaching, the schemes and adjustments were lacking. Despite that, the S play was the worse IMO. Barely ahead of the LB play. Anyways, Coleman and Taylor are horrible in coverage. Both guys are the S you want up in the box against the run. Although neither are good tacklers, both are sloppy and have many missed tackles. On the other hand both do make plays at times. Another problem is that their replacements Jones and McCray arent good in coverage either. Yet, the coaches keep playing them. P Jones does much better in coverage than any of those guys but he doesnt play much. Same with Hatcher. Everyone is talking about Loston, he wont play much until two years. Miles wont play a true Freshman over Srs.

Coach Miles should always play the player that gives LSU the best chance to WIN!

If he does not; he may not be calling the shots much longer.

I remember Taylor being solid last year. I also remember Coleman playing a helluva game vs Ohio State. And Chad Jones was destined for greatness.

I think it was a general consensus on this board that our safeties would help cover up some of the shortcomings of the corners. Turns out the corners played much better than any of our safeties.

    It's coaching. Bottom line.

Just a pathetic job by the coaching staff and the scheme that Mallory employed. Our safeties didn't know what they were assigned to do 85 percent of the time.

To be honest, the schemes might have sucked but the players have to execute a lot better than they did. Both take poor angles and go for the big hit instead of the wrap up.

Im surprised most by C Jones. He was supposed to be all everything like Laron. He just hasnt panned out yet. His coverage is off and he too misses a lot of tackles. Although he hasnt played a lot, Ive been most impressed with Hatcher. As I mentioned he hasnt played a lot so that might be it but he was a sure tackler with solid cover skills. Then again he is a true freshman. The best guy needs to be in there regardless of class, P Jones should play more as well.
