You never know with the craziness going on now. I wouldn't put it past the NFL, if it means they could make a few bucks. I think HS players would also get hurt in the NFL, but common sense has gone out the window at this point. I also never thought I would see college players making a million dollars a year, but it's becoming an every day occurrence!
Sorry if this has been addressed.. I didn't read the whole thread, but if a player is offered $1m NIL deal to play for Team X. Can team Y offer the same player $2m NIL to come play for them next year? If so, then in theory, a player could play for a different team each year until his eligibility runs out.
The current eligibility policy of "3 years out of high school" is a product of the NFL. They may be godless money-grubbers, but they are cognizant of the fact that high schoolers have no business on an NFL field. NIL isn't going to change that.
Technically, a business can pay for an endorsement, but a team can't offer pay at all. And technically, pay for play is still illegal, so you can't offer a player or recruit money to come play for your school. What is happening in actuality is another matter entirely.
Yep, NIL sold as autograph sigining, commercial spokesperson deals. In reality, shell corporations created by cabals of boosters with no real return outside of pay-for-play. Since there is no clear guidance at gov or NCAA level, its like most have said, WildWest. I cant help but wonder if DoJ gets involved at some point with racketeering charges/investigations.
