The LSU master plan has it as a parking lot for the near future. The old married student housing units to the north are due to be demolished and rebuilt as student apartments in a few years. I expect old Alex Box field may be used as a construction staging area for that.
man, it's tough for me to look at those pictures... and it's not just because LSU baseball means so much to me. it's more about the good times had in that stadium as a kid. a late spring afternoon when the sun would cast a shadow across much of the outfield and there was a certain stillness in the air that invoked this feeling within. man... i guess it has a lot to do with letting go of childhood memories...
The photo of the gate with "SEC 8" in the background says it all for me. Alex Boxx really has gone "section 8". By the way, wouldn't anyone just love to have those baseball gates at their house? I hope they salvage those and use them somewhere on campus...maybe at the new Boxx. They wouldn't even have to be used as gates, but as part of an historical marker or monument to all the baseball NCs. SAVE THE GATES...Nuke the whales...but SAVE THE GATES !! Come on, get with it school of architecture. Design something. What a class project!!
the gates i believe are an auction item. i would kill for em if i could come up with the $$$. since you feel so strongly about saving the gates, how about doing a fundraiser for me so i can give em a good home?
i would have LOVED to have had those old gates in some outdoor landscaping! i knew they were an auction item, i didnt know already sold or for how much.
