i heard something a couple of weeks ago that saban was instructing his commits to flirt with other schools so that those schools would waste time on them.

(i'm sorry if this has been addressed, i'm a little slow...)

i don't think it's a violation in fact i think if our coach were doing it we'd think it was shrewd.

i'm not a recruiting guru so i don't know who we were actually trying to close in the waning moments but it seems with guys like:
sentimore, kelly, richardson, etc. that this theory isn't crazy.

i was wondering if there was any validity to it and what y'all thought about that as a recruiting strategy. it seems it proved effective although i'm not sure i would condone it.

it was like when i was younger and playing against old men in the post in bball leagues. they would pull jerseys, knee the back of your knees, elbow you and such but never got called for it.

anyone have the 411 on this?

Urban legend, I think. Why would you want to expose your top recruits to a rival school's top recruiters and have them wined and dined and having a fine old time on another campus?

i kinda feel the same way.

you would need to be REALLY confident these guys were coming to your school.

Wouldnt be surprised if it wasnt a little payback for not being offerred.

Don't care for Nick since he left us, but that does not sound like something he would do. In January he told the Bama QB commit from Mobile (McCarrom or something like that) that if he visited Tennessee, Bama might just walk away.

I think this is just bama folks claiming evey possible and impossible stategy advantage for Saban.

I've never seen a fanbase with such coach worship before.

I wonder if they thought he was so great when he was in Baton Rouge.

Exactly...my analogy involves a time not too many years ago when the Navy had me in their recruiting office after making high marks on the ASFAB exam. They wanted me to have zero contact with the other branches after that. I say it is the same in recruiting. No way they would want to risk anyone coming up with a better deal.

I got that but the recruiter acted as if I'd been declared an Einstien.
