I disagree. Florida took one RB and no quarterback. Not sure who they have in the wings for when Tebow leaves or goes down.

Also 12 of their 22 recruits were a kicker and 11 defensive positions- not sure what positions the "Athletes" were recruited to play, which accounts for two more. Seems like a lot being they have such a young defense but I only started following recruiting in the last year so maybe I'm wrong.

As far as the Bama/LSU comparison, Bama's needs are much greater than ours so I give LSU the edge as far as us getting players to fit specific needs. Wouldn't have minded another CB but overall, feel we did quite well.

As far as Georgia,I know y'all are gonna be bad azz next year but have no idea about depth on UGA's roster.

What is the limit? How many of these guys will not qualify? There is a reason for signing 31.

25 a year. There are a few threads on how programs make the numbers work on the board right now.

I agree. Florida's recruiting is very strange indeed. Just think if they didnt have Tebow last year where they would be..maybe 6-6? No running game and they still dont take many RB's. Very odd. The 2 highly rated guys they got from Alabama are yawners. I saw William Green get mauled in 3 games this year by guys who were much smaller and much slower. That Dee Finley from Auburn is also questionable. I dont see that Meyer did anything but recruit the star factor.

Not to argue with your non-argument ;) but I only included the teams that were in the SEC that year, like I said in my hastily written post.
How? I compared apples to apples and oranges to oranges, I made a consistent comparison across a 50 year span, and I didn't make ANY sweeping conclusions, just observations. So, how is my comparison skewed? I couldn't use the Top 25 because the data doesn't exist prior to 1981 or so. I'm going to go back and break out the Top 10 because as I was crunching the data, it was obvious that the SEC was present and absent from the Top 10 in bunches (3 teams in some years, none or one in other years).
You have a valid point here - good teams beating good teams, thereby insuring 1-3 more losses per year than a weaker conference. I'm not arguing against that, but it doesn't make the comparison invalid - just incomplete outside of context, like all statistics. Like I said - needs more analysis, which I'm gonna do just for the fun of it. Damn I'm getting wierd....

Meyer actually needs more defensive depth than offensive playmakers at this point. I think he met his objectives on defense with Omar Hunter, Earl Okine and Will Hill.

Matt Patchan is his big catch for the OL, quite possibly the best offensive lineman in the whole country for 2008.

Richt went after some playmakers that will suit the QB style of Logan Gray.
Meanwhile, Richt was able to grab Jones, the best offensive lineman out of Alabama, while also bringing in Cordy Glenn, the best offensive lineman in Georgia this year.

Saban, on the other hand, had very minimal luck in the Atlanta metro area.

Both Meyer and Richt upgraded their rosters to compliment the players already there. Saban merely brought in a lot of raw talent. His new OC is going to have a lot of work to do to fit all of these warm bodies into a well coordinated offensive scheme.

If you match up Alabama's recruits to Georgia's recruits position by position, I think there is little doubt as to which coach ended up with the most quality.
Saban is restructuring while Richt is reloading.

I think you are completely wrong. If anything what makes the Bama class good is because they need guys to play right away.

Lawrence, Barron, Jones, Harris, Hightower, Ingram, Scott and others could start right away.

I would put this class as far away from being raw as possible. But that is you opinion. Glad you still have your ATL theory, though.

EDIT: And that is what makes LSU's class great. We were fortunate enough to take some projects with lots of upside because we are simply loaded at a few positions.

If Meyer doesn't find a running back Tebow is going to be dead by the end of the season. He was injured by game eight but toughed his way through the season. I don't think you want you're qb having to do that every year. Yet Meyer didn't do much of anything to address that issue. And yes it IS an issue. See the Michigan game for confirmation.

If you think Alabama's recruiting class is full of "raw" talent then you obviously don't follow recruiting very close. TigerBait mentioned a few names that have a REAL chance of contributing immediately. That's not counting the players from Saban's 07 class that got valuable playing time that will contribute this season.

But I do think Georgia will the beast of the SEC in 08 or they should be. But I sure would like for Bama to upset them in Athens this season. Gonna be a good game.
