blaming the bama fans for the embarassing loss to utah ""There's very little interest from our fans, our players or anybody else to play in the Sugar Bowl, which to me is a tremendous opportunity. I tried to tell everyone, you're only going to remember one thing about this game, and that's going to be the outcome of this game. So there's no interest, there's no passion and everybody is embarrassed because of how we played. Well, it's because you didn't have any passion for it, you didn't have any interest in it, you didn't have any enthusiasm to do it, and that's across the board. And that's not right." http://blog.al.com/ray-melick/2009/04/melick_saban_never_at_a_loss_f.html
how about, you got outcoached, out classed, and out played. The fans arent calling the plays, and the fans arent playing. The fans damn sure werent out on defense when Utah scored at will on the great defensive minded nick saban. Its always someone else that is to blame with this guy.
This has been in the paper and on the radio here quite a bit over the last couple days. He actually has a point. The "bama nation" rolleye33 was very ho-hum about that game and because they are so active with the players he feels the players adopted the same attitude. Of course its his job to get the team prepared and he fell woefully short but if the players had half the attitude of the fans it didnt help. The gumpers pretty much buy everything he says lock, stock and barrel. He can get away with saying stuff like this and leave the fans muttering thank you sir may I have another.
The Gumps' arrogance is incredible. Considering their recent history, they should have been dancing in the streets at the prospect of playing in a BCS bowl.
im just not buying it, you know our fans werent too excited about playing in the chiken sammich bowl either, but our players who werent focused all year, and our coaching staff who wasnt focused all year sure came out and laid the freakin wood to the yellow jackets. yeah the gumps are arrogant, and yeah they may think that bama is gods gifts to the NCAA, but its not their responsibility to be prepared for a BCS game with a huge payout. They would have finished the season with the same record as the national champs, so if they werent focused its not the fanbase's fault.
Saban is correct. A lot of Bama fans didn't take Utah seriously. The fans at the stadium during the game cheered early on, but after Utah's first 2 TD's they kind of faded out. They should have got even louder and encouraged Alabama to win instead of sitting there pissed off. At least Georgia fans were getting loud in the 2nd half against Bama to pump up their team. Alabama should have played with more passion too. Utah was ready, but I can't say the same for Alabama.
Maybe true but the fans are not on the field. Heck look at our Troy game this year. The entire stadium left. They came back with 35 points. Yes LSU should have never even been in that situation but regardless you cannot blame fans for not being passionate for a team being flat. But Saban has always lectured fans. He did it all the way back to MSU. He often gets "testy" when he thinks the fans dont appreciate "What he has accomplished".
i didnt realize a team was awarded points for crowd activity. still sabans fault for not having his team prepared, not the fans. i find it amusing that saban blames the loss in the sugar bowl on the fans, and the fans just sit back suck that kool aid up, must be grape kool aid.
I was at the game and I saw a flat Bama team. They were constantly out of position to make a play. I would attribute that totally to coaching. I was able to see both teams while I was on the field pregame and Utah looked like a high school team(size wise) compared to Bama. I thought there was no chance for Utah.
