The article does a good job of summing up the comments.

    What's the point?

Athletic Director Defends Comment that Iron Bowl Compares to War
Auburn athletic director David Housel is defending his comments comparing the Iron Bowl to war. But his statement prompted a university trustee's company to withdraw its sponsorship of his weekly pre-game radio commentary.

Housel's comments originally aired on the Auburn Network in 2002, and were broadcast again before this year's Iron Bowl at Housel's suggestion.
Great Southern Wood, owned by Auburn trustee Jimmy Rane, has
withdrawn its sponsorship of Housel's commentary. Rane says he made the decision because he was offended by the commentary, but declined further comment.

Housel and Auburn President William Walker have been criticized for taking a secret trip two days before the Iron Bowl to discuss the football coaching job with Louisville's Bobby Petrino. Petrino later said he was staying put, and Tommy Tuberville agreed to remain.

Housel acknowledged the trip was a mistake.

Housel said the comments were tongue-in-cheek, and said he has no regrets about making them.

Terry, hopefully you have noticed that I have never said anything negative about Saban on these boards. And I don't think he is burning the flag here. But surely you can see why a college football coach should not reference two of America's worst events to a football. Please tell me you are joking.

I dont see anything wrong with the comments. He was simply showing how people come together after terrible events. And hoping that his team could do the same. By doing that, he is not saying that the loss is equivalent to those tragic events. For those who are saying he needs to be fired over the comments are crazy. These are just the PC police, or those who are looking for any small thing to criticize Saban over. Im no Saban supporter, but come on.

I agree. I have never talked bad about Saban. But this could be trouble for him if the National Media plays it up big. That is all I am saying.
