Re: New Commit: S Rocky Duplessis Rivals is still not mentioning the commitment. I am not convinced Miles should have used a scholly on him. We will see.
Re: New Commit: S Rocky Duplessis I really don't know much about this kid specifically but in general, I think some coaches like to take on a project player. It may be frustrating to see a schollie used and at the same time it speaks well of the coach's character that they see someone with potential who is a local diehard fan and may not make it to their dreamschool any other way. I did read that Duplessis has been a lifelong Tiger fan and has been going to LSU games since he was a kid. To play for LSU has got to be the dream of his youth and giving his commitment to CLM was no doubt a major highlight.
Re: New Commit: S Rocky Duplessis Well, thanks to Giddens and his Mike Tyson skills that bought him a ticket off the football team, adding depth at safety isn't a bad thing. He might very well be a "low 3-star" guy, but we don't need him to start. Give him a RS year, and 2-3 seasons in the conditioning program, and by the time he's a RS-Soph, he could get some playing time on special teams (i.e. Daniel Francis) and possibly get playing time on defense his RS-Junior year (i.e. Curtis Taylor).
Re: New Commit: S Rocky Duplessis This is quite a difference in height. You always expect .5 to 1 inch, but 2.5 is quite a stretch. The 4.5 sounds realistic. I can't imagine we would sign a CB this early that ran a 4.6 forty. I'll gladly take the shortness instead of the slowness.
Re: New Commit: S Rocky Duplessis He seems like a nobody right now, but Coach O has been on him a while, maybe he'll impress in his senior year.
Re: New Commit: S Rocky Duplessis I see he is listed as a safety and not a CB now. Based on how Dyworcack??? ( its the best I can do without looking up the spelling) moved up in ranking after we signed him I am willing to give Miles the benefit of the doubt. All things being equal it is better to take a LA boy also. Now we need OL.
Re: New Commit: S Rocky Duplessis Jai Eugene ran a 4.56-forty his Sr. year and that's not exactly "blazing faster" to a 4.6. The more important time measurement, IMO, for a DB isn't so much the 40 yard dash, but rather the shuttle--even that doesn't always dictate everything. As long as a DB is fluid in his back-peddle and in changing direction, he doesn't need to run 4.4's to be good. 40 times are nice and do represent a player's top-end speed, but honestly, how many plays strictly cover STRAIGHT 40-yards and without a player having to make a cutback???
Re: New Commit: S Rocky Duplessis As far as a players' "Times" go, they can attend SPARK clinics and with the right people/dedication, they can improve on those times coming out of high school as well. I'm not real familiar with what all they do at these SPARK clinics but was told by a friend who is that they guarantee improved times if the regiment is followed.
Re: New Commit: S Rocky Duplessis Miles and Co. are doing a great job recruiting and recruits are knocking on the door, just look at the last class. He may not be well known but if Miles offered him this early you can bet the kid has ability. If LSU recruited lifelong fans most of us here would have played saturday nights in Tiger Stadium, fortunately the coaches are looking for players.
