http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recr...story?columnist=lawlor_christopher&id=3519249 Pretty incredible stuff coming from a 16 year old kid.
What is probably being overlooked is the long term effect he is having on our recruiting. Sure he is working plenty of recruits this year, but how many parents and kids are reading these articles and hoping they can benefit from going to LSU as well? The residual effects are impossible to measure, but very real. We are going to wind up reaping a great deal because of this exceptional young man. Thanks Russell. :thumb:
The effect has already been felt this year and when players like McFarland and Loston get on board (with a possible NSD surprise) his true impact will be felt, but the real effect will be next year when he is already on campus as a Tiger. He is graduating early so he will be there to show kids around during the start of recruiting season for 2010.
Great article. Thanks for the post. Looks like we can see him on TV this fall. Somebody remind us to record it when it gets closer. The Rams, who return 10 starters, are favored to win their second straight district title and will make their ESPNU debut on Oct. 16 against archrival Cy Falls. That game will match Shepard against Cy Falls quarterback Kolby Gray, who passed for 3,350 yards and 32 TDs last season. "It's going to be a heckuva game," Shepard said. "I'm glad it's on ESPN."
I haven't posted in awhile but this article pushed me to it. This kid sounds awesome. I've read a little about him so knew he was very talented but it is really great to see his leadership skills and that he seems to have his head on straight. That marks a big change from RP. I hope he develops into a QB at LSU. It would be interesting to see him at QB if he has the arm for it and it certainly, certainly seems like he has the leadership qualities and the cerebal ability to play at QB. I will definitely be looking for this game on TV. Has he signed or just given a verbal? I don't recall. Here's to Shepard!!!:thumb:
Shepard will be working really hard to make sure he plays the QB position. That's where his heart lies. He has stated he will play WR as a true freshman if need be just to get on the field. This kid really has an open mind. He will do whatever it takes to win. That's all you can ask of a recruit.
Sounds like he is already a winner. Whatever else he accomplishes outside of being a great human being is extra. Like this quote from ESPN 150 from the article: He causes headaches for defenses because he can break down a defender in the open & Shepard is much further along as a passer than Terrelle Pryor (of Ohio State) was at this stage, and Shepard is more explosive."
The exact quote was: "All I've ever asked is to have a chance at starting as a true freshman," Shepard said. "If I don't start at quarterback, then I'll switch to another position, like, wide receiver. I don't plan on redshirting." I'm very excited to see what RS would be like as a WR and a kick returner for LSU. I think he'll be the next "Rocket" Ismail.
