He could be a player in a Chip Kelly type offense. He is a niche player. Being he isn't a big guy, could he learn the trade fast enough to be a good inside WR? Wes Welker isn't big but he is smart and has good hands. If RS could mold himself into that and also be utilized in Kelly's offense in screens. He was hard to utilize here, mostly because of the play calling and not hiding what was going to happen. Hopefully he can find a niche in Kelly's offense with the WR issues there.

With the injuries the Eagles have at WR, I think he'll get his opportunities this season.

exactly! we've never lacked for players. some of the coaching decisions on the other hand... i like where we are now. i just hope the coaching hierarchy doesn't once again cost us games we have no business losing.

Shep's 1st NFL preseason game is one he's going to want to forget. Per the ESPN box score, the Eagles threw it to Shep 6 times, more than to any other Eagle, and Shep was only able to make 1 catch for 4 yards. on the other hand, the Eagles top 4 receivers in the game caught every pass throw to them but one

This, in a nutshell, was his biggest problem at LSU. He can't consistently catch the damn ball.

Looks like all the recruting scouts had him pegged when they offered him as a corner.

here's what someone on an Eagles discussion board wrote before their 1st preseason game: "Kelly's no-hitting camp is making all the receivers look great, which is why people are going crazy over Momah and Shepard. We'll see how great they are when they're actually in danger of being thumped"
(Ifeanyi Momah is a 6 ft 7, 239 lb WR out of Boston College)

after the game, an Eagles blogger put Shep on his list of players that hurt their chances to make the roster...

"Russell Shepard/Ifeanyi Momah: Neither of these two wideouts were able to do much to convince anyone that they’re worthy of a roster spot. Shepard was pushed around by his defenders, and also drew a flag for offensive interference. Momah hasn’t shown that he can catch a ball yet."

on an Eagles discussion forum, on the stock up/stock down thread, a lot of people are putting Momah and Shepard on their "stock down" list, but with only a few people offering explanations why:

--Russell Shepard (Targeted so many times, ended up with only one catch.)

--Shepard/Momah - These guys had a shot to make a name for themselves and got outplayed by Greg Salas (of the Univ of Hawaii) by a huge margin

--Momah was absolutely dreadful in that game. Dude is definitely not making the team. Salas ouplayed him AND Shepard last night.

--Salas deserves a spot on the team over Momah and Shepard at this point.

--with all the hype, i was expecting a lot more from Sheppard

Btw, this Momah guy from Boston College that had a lot of Eagles fans just as excited as Shep, here is how he did compared to Shep:

    Shep
    2012 - 253 all purpose yards (92 receiving)
    2011 - 290 all purpose yards (190 receiving)

    Momah (Boston College)
2011 - 1 game, 157 all purpose yards (all receiving) before he blew out his knee
2010 - 296 all purpose yards (all receiving)

From the Eagles bio on Momah:
"A standout receiver at Boston College, Ifeanyi Momah recorded a career-high 8 receptions for 171 yards in the season opener of his senior campaign before suffering a knee injury that ultimately kept him out of football for the next two years."
