I think we already knew he wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. The 2010 Auburn game was proof positive. He had no clue what he was doing or supposed to be doing all game.

Word has it that he was the healthiest guy on the team, though. He couldn't even catch a cold.

I am interested to see what Chip Kelly does with him. Then again, I'm an Eagles fan, so I'm stuck with a disappointment. I can remember reading about his recruitment thinking he was the Messiah.

NBC Sports: NFL investigating Russell Shepard negotiation

For Shepard, the question becomes whether the Eagles decide to yank their offer to Shepard if he doesn’t successfully clean up this mess.

For the Eagles, the question becomes whether the NFL will accept Shepard’s inevitable claim that he was joking or misinformed or simply bragging when he said what he said.

On Wednesday, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told Tim McManus of PhillyMag.com that the league is investigating

Fox News: Undrafted drama in Philly (it's a reprint of an article by Philadelphia-based The Sports Network)

An undrafted rookie faces a significant uphill climb in his effort to make an NFL roster, so the last thing anyone in that position wants to do is make the ascent up the mountain any steeper.
Former LSU receiver Russell Shepard did exactly that, however, when he boasted that he agreed to terms on a free agent deal with the Philadelphia Eagles before the draft actually ended.
    ...
Unfortunately for the Eagles, Shepard has already come clean and even went so far to mention that Philadelphia coach Chip Kelly personally called him at the beginning of the sixth round to explain the Eagles wanted him but couldn't draft him because the team had lost some picks via the trade up to get quarterback Matt Barkley at the top of Round 4. All of this nonsense sent the Eagles scurrying on Wednesday.
    ...
On the outside looking in, Shepard seems like far more trouble that he's worth
    ...
Shepard believes he'll get a chance to play receiver, running back and Wildcat quarterback in Kelly's offense, while returning kicks and being a gunner on the punt team.
The rest of us believe he will get a cursory look and quietly move on sometime in August, a mouthy footnote which could cost the Eagles a draft pick down the line.

    CBS Sports, Will Brinson:

Russell Shepard wasn't a big-time prospect in terms of the 2013 NFL Draft, but he is causing a big-time stir after having agreed to terms with the Philadelphia Eagles. That's because Shepard said he agreed to a contract with Philly during the draft and took himself "off the draft board during the draft." Whaaaaaaa? ... You can bet the NFL still isn't happy about how this went down. ... (Shepard) might want to slow down a little bit, or else he's going to end up getting the Eagles nailed for the NFL's version of a recruiting violation.

    ESPN, Dan Graziano:

Interesting case here of a young man's mouth maybe getting the Philadelphia Eagles into some trouble. LSU wide receiver Russell Shepard...gave a radio interview in which he claimed that he and the Eagles had reached agreement on a contract while the sixth round of the draft was still ongoing. This would, of course, be a violation ... and according to Tim McManus, the NFL is looking into the matter.
    ...
The issue here is that Shepard went on the radio and blabbed about it, and now the Eagles could face some sort of discipline
    ...
I imagine that Shepard this morning isn't the Eagles' absolute favorite undrafted free agent they signed over the weekend.
