I'm amazed at some of the things I'm reading. Russell Shepard falls victim to the same problems that Reggie Bush had. He can't live up to the insane hype that was placed on him and therefore he is worthless. The guy that averaged 7 yds/carry as a freshman, when everybody knew what was coming, is a straightline speed guy with no juke. Seriously? Russell Shepard would excel in a Bush type roll, catching balls out the backfield, screens, crossing routes where he can get the ball in space. Is he a true WR? No. A true RB? No. Neither was Bush in New Orleans. However, they are both playmakers. Shep is best at running when he can see the field in front of him. Shepard should have went to a place like Oregon. He would be better utilized there and that's not a knock against Miles. I just think it's a better fit for him. For our sake, I'm glad he came here. He was a great recruiter and has been a great ambassador for LSU. He may not be the focal point of the offense that we all hoped, but I think he will turn some heads with Mett at the helm.
I, for one, admit he hasn't lived up to the hype, but hope Russell Shepard comes out this season and gives all the negatigers a fist in the mouth, figuratively speaking that is, and a great big shit burger to eat.
Care to quote who said he was worthless? I think he will be good, not an LSU great. His numbers and production this far of are a good player, not great. It is not bad for some of us not to expect anything, but rather WISH for the best...
I do not think there is any crow for anyone to eat. All most have said to this point is that he hasn't produced to the hype level. It is a fact he hasn't. His numbers and production as a player are that of a good player and a player that should be used. If he does have a breakout year this year I am all for that, but like I said I just can’t see that happening based off the information we have on him. I expect him to obviously have higher production than last year, but I would assume that a number around 1,000 all purpose yards is what a realist fan could estimate. Now that is not to say he can’t breakout from that and go ape shit, im all for that jazz….
Actually, the plays would go off on time because I wouldn't be trying to come up with some obtuse way to get the ball to a mediocre player in Russell Shepard. As far as "failed play", you jest right? There would be no failed plays! Have you not learned anything!
Uh no, they are not. They are historical observations. I watched the JUCO NC game via the internet and yes it was JUCO but at the highest level. Good technique is good technique. I saw basic QB skills with Mettenberger that I have not seen in 5 years with Jarrett Lee and 4 years with Jordan Jefferson.
I assume you are talking Reggie Bush in the pros because Bush LIVED UP to the hype in college. BTW, I have seen no one say that RS is worthless. What I have said is that he is a high 3* caliber player which LSU signs several in each class. I would have offered the guy a scholarship from what I saw but I would never have thought he would be a starter...simply isn't remotely close to a complete football player. And of course, like almost everyone, I knew he had 0 future at QB. I saw the guy as a situational player. Laughable how you talk about all these uses for a guy who has had ball security issues in the past, goes down when someone grabs his sleeve and has literally been bodyslammed twice on tackles, can't run routes properly, and has shown little ability to cutback and make people miss ala Odell Beckham has shown. As far as doing well in space, ROTFLMAO..... You mean like probably 200 to 300 players in the NCAA including LSU players like Randle, Beckham, Alfred Blue, Ford, etc. Shepard could have gone anywhere and had the exact same issues. When your ONLY real asset is straight line speed, that is not going to cut it. It didn't cut it with Trindon Holliday did it? Yes, he returned some punts and kicks for TDs but he also fumbled some that led to opponent scores. He was irrelevant in the passing game and marginal in the running game. Shepard is a SLIGHTLY above average skill player for say a top 50 NCAA program. He was overrated by the services big time which is not his fault. However to say that he has not been used properly or his skills utilized is downright delusional! The final proof will be the NFL draft...will NOT be drafted.

This is just from his freshman year. Some of the quotes...he's a Percy Harvin type athlete....you have to get the ball to him...makes a couple of guys miss...Shephard cuts back and makes a couple of guys miss...there's an example of that speed and elusiveness...
