On espnu one of 4 panelists picked LSU to win the west next year. He said Bama couldn't replace Parker at QB and that Sheppard would be the difference at LSU. He sited Tom Luginbill?, another panelist on the same show, as comparing Sheppard to Percy Harvin playing quarterback. That is one hell of a compliment to Sheppard -WOW!!
Probably the best way to compare him is to look at him as another Percy Harvin who can do it all on offense. Look for him to push for the starting QB position this Spring.
Percy Harvin with an arm! Now I'm excited. Excuse me while I go take a cold shower!! I know he is supposed to enroll next semester which could give him a little bit of a head start. Like I said in another post I didn't think he could make a huge splash next year at QB because either Hatch or Lee were expected to emerge as starters this year. I figured they would gain experience and be hard to overtake, but now it seems the starting QB job is still wide open. From Shepard's recent comments he recognizes he has a shot to grab the job if he can beat out JJ who will have had only a few games experience under his belt. I'm a bit more hopeful with JJ or Shep at the position. It helps tremendously if an inexperienced QB can pull the ball down and run for a first down when no one is open. Although he seems like a nice guy, I think Lee has blown his chance and is unlikely to emerge as the starter, especially with his lack of mobility. I think Hatch doesn't have a strong enough arm to lead us to a title. For a reality check though, it is still very difficult to win championships with a freshman or sophmore QB with little experience. On the bright side, auburn and bama should be down so we have as good a chance as any to win the west.
Can't wait to see him in action. Seems we have as good a chance as anyone else to win the West in '09. :geauxtige
Percy Harvin with an arm and....extraordinary leadership qualities (at least from what we have gleaned so far, and I do not used that word lightly).
Here's a video with coaches talking about him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfcJgCDkVn8 If you can't get excited by this.......
That's the same thing that the opening sentence of ESPN/Scouts Inc. scouting report of Shep says: Shepard is a rare athlete who resembles University of Florida receiver Percy Harvin when lined up at quarterback--a scary thought. http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recr...ncf/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=55065
Yeah I didn't know if that was the end of the commentary or a problem with the youtube video. So how excited are you about this kid? In comparing him to Pryor, Shepard has much more upside. Much more elusive runner, looks faster in the open field and has a much better arm. Pryor's throws look pretty bad.
