even though the story WAS on the 1st page...

    people are so insecure.

Oh, he hates LSU and is biased against them.

    or

    LSU gets no respect, etc...

First it was ESPN, now this. I am convinced now fully that regardless the medium, fans will poke holes in it and say it's Anti-LSU over time.

I think every fan base is like that. Some Alabama fans think ESPN has Anti-'Bama bias.

Some Notre Dame fans think the same thing, if you can imagine that.

oh, I know it's not an LSU thing...

that's why I said "people are so insecure" and not "LSU fans are so insecure."

I know it goes both ways, trust me. :)

This from orangebloods.com website (posted by a mod on the site):

My thoughts on Shepard are the same as they have always been. He is a pied piper of sorts in the Houston area. He will have an impact, if only on one or two key players, wherever he goes and not just in one year, but in the future. Other players want to be around Russell Shepard. They want to talk to him. It is what it is.

As a QB prospect, he needs two full years to develop IMO to have a chance to have true success on the next level. Because of his elite level of play making ability, college coaches want him to be on the field much earlier. That is understandable. It's also understandable that he wants to feel like he has a legit shot at playing the position. His bottom line is that he feels that more at LSU than Texas whether it works out long term or not. I, for one, agree with that decision based on what I know.

IMO, a lot of people are talking out of their ass about a kid they really know nothing about as a person or player. It's pretty funny stuff though and not unexpected.

The bottom line for me is that it's a big loss for Texas in ways that has nothing to do with playing QB or playing receiver. Shepard is the type of person, student and player that one would want as an ambassador for their program. Does it mean Texas won't survive? Of course not, but the program would have been better for having him in it. There aren't many at all that have his combination of ability and the special qualities aside from what people see on the field.

In my job one meets, talks to and sees hundreds of prospects on a yearly basis. Shepard is one I have a lot of respect for because of the way he carries himself, his leadership qualities, his toughness and his understanding and willingness to do whatever he has to do to give him the best chance of success. Mature way beyond his years in his thinking. I hear a lot of kids talk that sort of game, but many don't really deliver when it comes to getting it done when nobody is watching.

Texas' future success doesn't rest on Shepard or Gilbert or any other QB prospect recruited IMO. It rests on the staff's ability to evaluate talent, develop that talent once on campus, bring the best out of the talent and put that talent to the correct use on Saturday's in schemes that fit the personnel.

I'll bet, as a freshman he will be lined up in the wild hog or whatever the formation that McFadden and Tebow used, on goalline and short yardage situations. When his time comes he will be ready to assume the Quarterback leadership.

    Thanks, ISLSTL!

The talk about players wanting to be around Shepard...the same is said about players wanting to be around PJ. Which makes me think that the team will be in good hands on both sides of the ball a few years down the road. As big a loss it is when a player of Dorsey's talents leave, the team takes just a big of a hit when someone with his leadership skills leave. I was so impressed with the leadership the team had last year, and I always wonder about who will step up in future. It looks like we are recruiting guys who can do that, and that makes me insanely happy.

ahh, forget all about Patrick Johnson in those same regards....you are correct....he is definitely a kid who commands attention and someone who has a great head on his shoulders

possibly 2 of the most important signees for LSU in their history when all is said and done

PS - thanks for putting that LSU cap on that dude's head in your avatar...he looks much more personable now :milesmic:
