He continues to impress: http://media.www.lsureveille.com/me...Persuades.Others.To.Join.Tigers-3354803.shtml
I am very, very excited that this kid is coming here. He seems to have top notch ability and character. Between him and Patrick Johnson, it looks like we are going to have top notch leadership from players for the next several years to come.
With Ryan P. gone will this change anything for Shepard? I don't mean that he would start this year, but perhaps it could be a deciding factor in not red-shirting him. It may get him playing time as a running QB, similar to the role Perrilloux had. From the video I saw, he could be the best running QB we ever had. Thoughts?
Russell Shepard will be freshman in 2009 not in 2008. Currently he is still a junior in high school. The earliest time that he can play without redshirt him even if he enrolls in early spring 2009, will be the 2009 season.
You have to read it carefully. Poster said starting QB on "his" team which is true......his HS team.
While I wasn't thinking clearly at 1:00 in the morning, the point remains that the decision to redshirt him or not may have been affected by Ryan's dismissal. He would be a legitimate running threat as a QB in a limited role. If Ryan was still here, while Shepard was a freshman, there is little need to play him because Ryan is a running QB. Hopefully, we can redshirt Shepard because our other QB's step up and are outstanding.
Little confused by these posts, but with no RP it helps his chances to come in earlier. He may RS or not but he will see the field in a role like RP or Tebow ealry on in his career here. This will give him a chance to get a feel for the college game is freshman season in 2009.
