Ok, Im slow. Why would the coaching staff not want them to enroll early and participate in spring drills?

Some coaches prefer early enrollees while others don't. My guess is that it is because, generally, Spring practice is not so much about learning as it is about sharpening skill sets.

Highschoolers have a very big transition to make to D1 ball, and require a lot of "babying". This would take away from the coaches' time with the rest of the team & hold the position groups back.

It looks to me like we usually take early enrollees when there is a depth issue, such that early PT is very feasible and the team needs another capable body at the position to work with/against. The only other time is with a guy like Barksdale, who could play multiple positions and the Spring allows the coaches extra time to evaluate their skills so that they may be put in their best position for success by the Fall.

Good explanation...however, I think this would be good in the case of Shepard. Yes, he's a QB...but they may want to see what ELSE he can be...ie WR.

Yes, but 2 QB freshman QBs plus RP, Lee, and Jordan Jefferson would not add to the team. There aren't enough reps available.

My concern is if we let Shepard enroll early, but tell Garrett to hold off he may worry that Shepard will have the leg up on him, and he would still have time to switch commitments.

Will be attending the Elite 11 Combine.

    His comments regarding the event:

“I’m not going just to go either,” Shepard informed. “I’m going to the camps with the intent of delivering a message to the country. I want to show people that I’m a quarterback that can throw the football with the best in the country."

The following are players is actively recruiting for LSU:

    Trent Richardson
    Duron Carter
    Jon Bostic
    Chris Davenport
    Christine Michael
    Reuben Randle
    Craig Loston

Feels good about Davenport, Bostic and Randle. He felt great about Michael until USC entered the picture. Was surprised he didn't commit after his visit.

Trying to get Loston to come with him to the Nike Camp April 27th.
