The only thing I'd change would be very minor, but I think would look much better: the shoulder stripe needs to go back to going all the way down and under the arm like in Cannon's day. I just don't care for the half stripe thing as much. I know several teams that have shoulder stripes do it that way now, but I still like the older look. Not that you care, coming from an Aubie, but I just thought the thread was interesting.
Here's another good pic of how we looked with the "gold" jerseys in the Independence Bowl against ND.
Here is a pic of how the "gold" jerseys looked when we wore them with our normal "gold" helmet (rather than the white helmet). Here we wore them against Florida at Florida in 1998.
I absolutely hate the yellow or golden jersey! I do like the white and the purple just fine. I think there are quite a few teams out there that wear a yellow or golden alternate jersey. I do like the white and the purple jerseys just fine. I must also add that I also like the white helmets even though that isn't an LSU color!:geauxtige
Thats cool, your opinion. Hate to say it now but those are one of the ones I really dont like. On the college level I love Notre Dame's uniforms and USC's red uniforms. That was hard to say, man I hate those two schools.
Vanderbilt had all black uniforms with gold helmets a couple of years ago, I thought they looked pretty cool. Also I wish the Saints would have kept the black headgear they had for one season. (Are ya getting I like the black gear), at any rate USCs red gear looked pretty good...ND, never did care much for theirs. Not a disagreement, just an opinion :hihi:
I hope they stay with what they have, of course I am a little biased towards the orange and blue look but LSU's look with the white jerseys is a part of college football history. Just as much as USC or Texas or Alabama's are. They NEED to keep that look. It even looks akward to see them in a game wearing the purple jerseys. I hope this also does not mean they are considering a font change for the numbers. I like the old school look with the college font for the numbers. Most of the SEC schools have stayed with the more traditional and historical uniforms and I think that's kind of cool. DON'T CHANGE! A look at the Tiger helmets throughout your football history
Hey UF Gators #1, thanks for the compliment. I was surprised that the majority of Tiger fans that posted on this thread didn't really say anything about having any real appreciation of the tradition our white jerseys represent. After all, our white jerseys are pretty much EXACTLY the same jerseys we have been wearing for half a century, starting from the very season that we won our first championship (which is why we never changed them). And yes, they are, like you say "part of college football history. Just as much as USC or Texas or Alabama's are." Thanks for understanding! As for that pic of the Tiger helmets and how they have looked throughout history, great find. Here is something to consider when looking at that pic: Notice the helmet with the numbers on the side -- the pic says that we had it from circa mid-60's to 1971. However, we actually had that helmet from the 1950's. Yes, in the 1960's, we did make a slight font change for the numbers on the helmet (full block numerals replaced the thinner numerals that we had before). However, other than the font of the numbers, that helmet in that pic is the exact same one we have worn since the 1950's (same exact color, same exact stripes). Before that helmet, LSU had a gold helmet like Notre Dame, with a single purple stripe across the top. The point is that, except for the logo on the side of the helmet, LSU has had the exact same helmet (same color, same stripes) since the 1950's. And LSU's white jersey and LSU's pants are pretty much EXACTLY the same ones that we have worn since the 1958 season. In other words, except for the logo on the side of our helmet, our uniforms have been unchanged for 50 years. That's pretty freaking amazing, and that is something to be very proud of. And as for the logo on the side of our helmet, that hasn't been changed in three decades. It's pretty incredible how awesome our uniforms are. Look at it like this -- look at Ohio State. Guess how old their uniforms and helmet are? Probably much older than LSU, right? Nope. They constantly changed their uniforms and helmets to all kinds of different looks before 1968, when they settled on the uniform and helmets that are pretty much the same as the ones they have now. Granted, that is still pretty old -- four decades, but like I said, LSU in our white jerseys have been pretty much the same for FIVE decades, except for the logo on the helmet, which has only been unchanged for three decades. Oh, and UF Gators #1, I loved those throwback jerseys Florida wore this year -- like the ones they wore back when Spurrier was a Heisman-winning QB for the Gators. In fact, that throwback uniform has a lot in common with LSU's traditional, old school uniform that we wear today.
