He was obviously referring to the fact that 292 of our 482 points came in the second half and 6 overtime possessions. Most would agree that our first half offensive performances have been lethargic. See Arkansas game- 6 points in first half. Auburn- 7; Florida-7; Ole Miss- 14. Slow starts have also meant us not putting away the likes of Tulane early so we could pull our starters, resulting in taking less snaps- the cumulative toll on their bodies is showing.
Yes, yes. Slow starts. We've all watched. The fact remains that we're averaging 40 points and 400+ yards a game (overtime included, so what?). The offense has carried the defense since Tulane. It gets tiring hearing all the smack about how the offense only produces when it has to. Wouldn't it suck if they couldn't produce and keep up with the swiss cheese defense that failed to stop Arkansas? I'd much rather fight out 3OT than lose 28-12. Now....giving Flynn the team offensive MVP last week surprised me a bit. I guess he was playing hurt, so he got the nod. Anyway - let's hope RP can carpe diem.
I don't give a dam about averages. Our offense, in the first quarter of the Arkansas game, failed to put points on the board with a short field. Our defense held Arkansas to only 7 points. In the end, (OT) our defense didn't stop them but on the last play, our offense couldn't get it done either. Had we tapped the potential of our offense in the first half Arkansas would not have been as encouraged. You can throw out our averages all day, numbers can be very misleading; however, I wasn't downing our offense, only showing the angle he was coming from and he's right, when you look at our first half averages- since you like "Averages". I sure hope we hit our "Average" today though.
I have to wonder if it was a kind gesture from Miles because it might be Flynn's last game as a Tiger and thanks for sticking it out behind JR. Speaking of using the I-formation, does anyone know if we use the pistol formation anymore and if not, why? Seemed to work wonders against Va Tech, but I don't really remember it being used past that.
