its official. now there is only one year left for the cws at rosenblatt. all in the name of "progress".

id like to get the opinion of the visiting husker fans, and tiger fans from around those parts. all of the locals we talked to while there, do NOT like the new stadium. they said if you think the parking around rosenblatt is bad, its nothing compared to the new one. at least around rosenblatt there are private yards etc that you can pay to park in. they said at the new stadium about the only parking is under the interstate. they did not say it if was legal or not.

also, i also heard that the royals do not like the stadium and a different one is being built for them. so basically some creighton games and the cws will be held at the new park and that is it?

no increased capacity, but more sky boxes? i havent seen any numbers but that is what i thought i heard on last nights broadcast. like thats gonna help the average fan.:rolleye33:

i really hope that next year i can go to omaha just to see the cws in rosenblatt one last time, before it becomes a parking lot for the zoo. me, and every other college baseball fan in america. get your room reservations now!

i know no amount of bitching will reverse course. but im wondering what everyone else has to say about it.

I think it's sad when old stadiums are put to rest. This is no different. Those old structures contain history in huge heaps.

It's why I get upset when I read threads about replacing Tiger Stadium. I wish people went to sporting events for the sports and not just for the luxury boxes these days.

That's the rich people who think they are too good to sweat...or freeze.

I am planning on going to the CWS next year. It'll be my first time going, although I passed by it in 2000 when I went do some work in South Dakota....didn't stop and I regret it.

Hopefully the Tigers get back to the CWS next yr. That way Rosenblatt can go out the way it deserves to, with LSU and all it's fans celebrating one last hurrah in the old stadium.

Being that I am exiled in South Dakota. The CWS is the one time a year I get to see the Tigers play baseball. I have gone every year since 2000 with my very first game at Rosenblatt being the 2000 Championship game against Stanford. As a college baseball fan I love everything about Rosenblatt. Its a crappy old ballpark with a lifetime full of memories, and I mean that in the most respectfull way possible. I get sick to my stomach at how everything in this world has gone corporate even down to the fact that the new place is called 'TD Ameritrade' ballpark. (or something to that extent)
However the name of the game for the NC-double arse-holes is $$ and Omaha was pretty much strongarmed into building this new place just to keep the series there for another 30 years.
I encourage anyone who loves baseball purity to start saving their pennies now and I will see you all next season for Rosenblatt's swan song cause we all know our beloved Tigers WILL be back next year!!

Beings we like to call it "box north" I think a few of us should make the roadie when they start tearing it down and bring back a few bricks? Be a nice thing to have I would think?

Okie, I'm with you. I HATE the fact that Rosenblatt is going the way of the dinosaur, but what I hate worse than that is how and why. It's one thing to tear Rosenblatt down if the ballpark were not structurally sound, but there's not a damn thing wrong with it. Omaha's city officials were put in a tough spot here. It was either build a new ballpark (which is currently being built in downtown Omaha), or risk losing the CWS to Indianapolis or Oklahoma City, and for that, I solely blame the money-grubbers of the NCAA. We love having the CWS here every year, and we don't want to lose it, which is the absolute only reason this new stadium is being built. The NCAA was "gracious" enough to reward Omaha with a new 25-year contract for the CWS.

The new ballpark, as of now, will host the CWS and a couple of Creighton vs Nebraska baseball games every year, and that's it. The Omaha Royals will not be playing in the new ballpark, and are currently looking for property in Sarpy County, particullarly LaVista (a suberb southwest of Omaha) to build their new home. The remainder of the year this ballpark will sit empty. How much sense does that make?

For those of you that have made the trip to Omaha for the CWS, I'm sure you've noticed that the area around Rosenblatt isn't exactly the ritziest part of town. People that live and do business in south Omaha are dependant on the revenue that the CWS brought every year, and now that revenue will be going to the downtown area (which isn't exactly cash-strapped). This will have a ripple effect on a lot of small businesses in south Omaha, and I'm sure a lot of businesses will follow the path of Rosenblatt, and close-up shop. South Omaha (and the CWS for that matter) will never be the same. I very highly doubt that we'll have the same feel and flavor of the CWS in the new ballpark as we do at Rosenblatt. It all seems very corporate to me now, and I'm sure a lot of good, old-fashioned hospitality will be tossed along the wayside, all in the name of "progress." We'll see, though. I could be wrong (and I hope to God that I am!). Parking was bad at Rosenblatt, and it will be just as bad, if not worse, at the new ballpark, considering that the new park is being built IN a parking lot for the Qwest Center (Omaha's events arena). I just don't know where 20,000 people are suppose to park their cars, but I'm sure for a "nominal fee" you can park a few blocks away and catch a tram or bus to the ballpark. This whole mess really upsets me, and I have a lot of ill feelings about it, but I'll stop bitching now, because I know it does no good, and I don't want to bore y'all to death with my idle ramblings.

Anyway, I hope as many of you as humanly possibe can make the trip up here next year and give ol' Rosenblatt a proper goodbye. It's fans like you that make the CWS what it is. Thank you!

I'm just glad it's not moving to Indianapolis. There's no real home field advantage for anyone in Omaha and it's NOT the headquarters for the NCAA. They've already screwed up the Final Four by placing it in Indy far too often and I would absolutely hate to see the CWS go there.

Omaha...you know one fan base that will be there to support you! :thumb:
