The Rose Bowl could have asked the Sugar Bowl for consent to take Georgia but never did, said BCS Coordinator Mike Slive, who is also the SEC commissioner." Happy???
Well I was ready to put the blame on the Sugar, but it looks like the Rose didn't even make the attempt. Perhaps they knew it wasn't going to happen anyway. I doubt the Sugar would have let them go.
And you conveniently left out the paragraph immediately preceeding which referred to "that arrangement effectively nixed any chance". Under Bowl Championship Series rules, with Southeastern Conference champion Louisiana State staying close to home to play Big Ten champion Ohio State in the BCS title game in New Orleans, the Sugar Bowl retained control of SEC-member Georgia. Why ask if you know what the answer would be? These aren't school girls here, but people who have done the dance before. The Sugar Bowl was NOT going to release Georgia, period.
I know, but you got nothing to lose by asking, especially when you have the opportunity to put together a matchup between the "two hottest teams in the country". What do you think???
Sounds like you have a reliable source inside the Sugar Bowl. Even if you are right, the RB could have made themselves look better by asking the question.
