I was a bit surprised that the offensive game plan looked a bit conservative. If you had asked me by second quarter 'Did Les and Cam come back to coach this one?' My answer would have been 'I'm not sure.' Question: Did playcalling shift to avoid getting blown out? The reality is this season is not about winning a title or a nice bowl berth. It's a job audition. Because we kept Elmer, this season is in the crapper and has been reduced to a purple and gold version of American Idol . A 10-0 loss will look a lot better at the Board of Supervisors meeting than 28-10. Just askin'. > discuss among yourselves<
It's no secret I'd love to see Coach Oeaux get the job. However I do have to criticize when it's due, I agree the play calling was a bit conservative, not too imaginable, with added wrinkles. On the other hand Etling was clearly not ready for this game. The OL just is not physical enough for Bama. At the end of the day we need more size on the OL and DL if we will ever beat Bama again. We also have to adapt to the current game, which is to recruit and be able to play in more spread formations. Teams that do well against Bama negate their size by playing more spread. You also need a mobile QB. At the end of the day though our OL is avg. I do think our tackling was suspect at times last night. Beckwith and Adams missed more tackles last night than they did in a while.
E and O are hamstrung by the offensive system and personnel they had when they ended up in this position, a position I might add, that they had no plans of being in. Our OL stinks against actual talent, as we found out again last night, and had seen earlier in the season in Wisconsin. In the off season, if we kept current personnel, I would love to see us morph into a legit pro-style offense with much less reliance on these slow developing plays that require us to hold a pocket for a long time. Incorporate the TE more, throw 15 yard out passes instead of 25. Get LF7 and next year, DG5 into space with the ball, or incorporate some passes into the flat rather than up the gut every time.
I don't think our newly minted OC was a good match against a very good Saban defense. Also, Coach O hasn't had a chance to recruit after taking over. I believe good high school quarterbacks will put LSU back on their map. Now, if we can get bright, creative coaches in there who can develop our offense and players we will be just fine. Our defense showed it can match up pretty well against a Sabab defense. But for now, we have to use what was given us from the CLM administration. Let's just continue to show we're ready to break from the past. Next year should be interesting.
We need a new coach. I would love to have one that is a QB developer like Fisher, Sprurrier etc.... I want one that brings something to the table. No more CEO coaches!! This group of Oline talent has gotten man handled for the last three years by Alabama. Nothing new!!!! Is it coaching? Is the talent not as good as past Oline groups? I believe it is a combination of both. Man!!!!!! Riley and Thomas were amazing last night.
We aren't going to out-Saban Saban. We have to find a way to get him out of his comfort zone, or get the horses to beat them in this type of game. The teams that have all given him fits were finesse style offenses that spread him out and got the ball out quick, or ran the QB. That's how you keep him on his heels and we just tried to out-Saban him
I don't think anyone is expecting new system in November . I do think many were expecting/ hoping for all out balls to the wall playcalling vs Gumps. We saw the same medicine. Granted nothing that doesn't work ever looks good. However the only difference between this year and last is Arranda was in Lane's playsheet. Offensively Tigers were the same ol same ol and maybe a bit timid.
To me the difference was QB execution. I like Danny and what he has done, but this was a step up in class. You have to make the most of every opportunity. He missed some key passes that would have made a difference. Not saying we would have won; but we could have.
