I read that the other day as well. I dont think LSU was recruiting Melancon too much. Its a catch 22. Im not disappointed in not getting him. I know he is considered a big prospect, I see him being too small to play DT in the SEC. There are quite a few other players Id much rather have. Now the bad thing is that he is the number 4 ranked player and is leaving the state. The number 3 player, Paige is also leaving the state. As good as LSU is begining to recruit out of state, we cant afford to lose the states top players. On top of that it remains to be seen where the states two most coveted players, McKnight and Jones decide to play.
He was waiting for a push from LSU to come here and after we got Drake Nevis to commit and we are high on Barksdale's list he had to sign with Tenn. I dont think we will get Barksdale but Roland knows the DL is loaded for years to come.
Melancon was towards the bottom of the DT list for LSU and he knows it.. thats why he went out of state. Even a big time LA guy like Blackwell might not make it onto the team.
Dominant in HS, but not the ideal size and had a reputation, right or wrong, for taking plays off. Plus his grades are supposedly not very good so he may not qualify. Whatever ranking has Paige 3rd & Melancon 4th in Louisiana is off - by a long shot. LSU is getting the state's top talent, and it shows because we didn't even give Paige an official offer & Melancon we haven't talked to in months.
Rivals has Melancon #4 and Paige #5. I forgot about Benton being #3. Anwyas, as long as we sign McKnight and Jones we will have done well. So long as the top players LSU covet dont leave the state, thats whats more important. CParso what are you hearing about Davis, Scout has him as having high interest in FSU? Also, what about Toliver, since he pushed back his announce date?
Thanks, Id never seen that page. LSU really wanted Nevis. Im surprised that LSU has Paige so far down on their list, considering how highly regarded rivals has him. I was surprised to see D. Breaux so high as well. This is a very strong class, which could turn out to be one of the great classes in LSU history.
