We wanted him at one point, just like we wanted Green at one point. The point is, we didn't want them when it mattered. We would not accept a commitment from either of these guys on National Signing Day. Thus, Saban has not taken a single recruit that LSU wanted.
You wanted him before you didn't want him. Hillary Clinton or John Kerry your recruiting coordinator?
Well, people that don't follow recruiting very closely don't realize this, but there are really 3 different types of offers that recruits can receive from a school. A verbal offer, a written offer, and a written offer which is not committable. The prospect often does not know what kind of offer he has. Prospects that don't understand how the recruiting process works don't realize that a verbal offer is meaningless, and just because they receive a written offer does not mean that they can commit to that school at any time. Alabama, for instance, has said "not now" to McClain twice already even though he has a written offer. That's because his offer was not committable (at the time), this could change at any time if the coaches change their mind.
We wanted him before he exposed his character to the coaching staff. Like I said, his talent was not an issue.
This sounds like a bit of deception to me. Until the last couple years I had never heard of a written offer that wasnt committable. Whats up with that? What purpose does a coach have in extending a written offer if its not really an offer? How does a player even know what kind of written offer he has? Does the coach tell them? It seems like we are extending more and more of these non-committable written offers and they sound dubious at best.
Coaches send out hundreds of written offers, and make even more verbal offers. They do this to give themselves the best shot at the best kids. We give offers to judge interest on the part of the recruit. A written scholarship offer means that we think you are good enough to play for our school. It does not mean that you can commit at any time you'd like, as we have several prospects on our board at the same position & we want to get the best possible.
I'll tell you what I think is "deception"...kids "committing"...then "de-committing" because they change their mind. And what is a "soft-verbal"?? It's all part of the game, man. It may have something to do with the fact that...if you have a need at, say LB...and you make an offer to a recruit...he commits...then bolts to USC at the last minute leaving you high and dry...and you have nothing to fall back on. So you give more than one offer...and if the preceding takes place, you may have a shot at someone else you have offerred.
You are so hung up on USC, Trojan homer. :hihi: We do lose kids to other schools too, yeah. Don't give USC props like that, implying they're swiping our kids- I don't care what they're recruiting numbers say.
i thought green was a good player...however, i thought his teammate PJ Smith was a stud... anyword where PJ SMITH is headed? Does he have a LSU offer?
