Tis I, your friendly neighborhood Thomas Paine. I was told that you guys were talking about me and decided to drop by and say hello. First things first....Geaux Tigers!!! Now, the entire thing is about seperation of church and state. It's not really that complicated. The government should not allow these offensive symbols on the roadside....Period. If you had to drive to work everyday and saw Muslim symbols on the roadside I think that most of you would agree that they needed to go. So, please put your own religious views aside and you will see that there shoudn't be any of these Bronze Age Death Cult symbols on public property....Thoughts?

It is not an issue of separation of church and state...the state is not the actor. In other words the state is not the one placing the cross out on the right away (which is state own property designated for public use) therefore there is no constitutional argument to be made regarding that particular issue.

On the other hand, there could possibly be a constitutional issue if they did not allow it. Perhaps you have heard of the right of free speech Mr. Paine? The act of placing a symbol, that is not considered obscene, in public view on public property is an example of self-expression that is considered free speech. For the state not to allow it, would be a violation of one’s freedom and therefore be unconstitutional.

ETA: On a side note, I have little doubt that you post under the name Thomas Paine because of his stance against organized religion. I feel you may actually misinterpret his thoughts of God. Mr. Paine was no atheist; he believed that man did not need a church to worship and that man creating organized religion did more harm than good. I for the most part agree with him.

Nonsense. It's about personal memorials by the highway. The shape is of no importance.

I would't care if people were putting five pointed stars for their departed Wiccan or Satanist relatives. No sweat off my back. They pay for the memorial and put it on public property. As long as no danger is caused by the memorial no one should care.

So my question to you Mr. Paine is why do you hate freedom so much?

I believe he is allowing his anti-religious views to cloud his judgment. It’s only human to let your personal beliefs stand in the way of reason and logic.

It is up to the ones that are thinking clearly to smack the clouds out of the head of another when they are form.

This guy seriously came here after “hearing” we were talking about him, ask us for our thoughts, and then doesn’t offer a retort….weak sauce I say, weak sauce.
