Think he was a saban dude, transferred out and if memory serves he somehow got the W against Les in his first game at LSU, the Katrina year I think.
2001. Well that explains it. Still during my deployment. Didn't pay much attention to shit back then.
That Rick Clausen game was a strange one. The Katrina situation, we jumped out to a big lead, the air was as thick with humidity as I've ever felt, then little Rick Clausen leads them back with long drives, dinking and dunking in a spread offense from the shotgun. We couldn't get them off the field and they come back and beat us at the end.
I believe it was also a Monday night. For a while after that game, I used to say that Miles doesn't lose on Saturday night (b/c I think he won all of them for his first few years). Just lost that miserable Monday night game.
Fatigue set in. That was a week of hell. Many of the players had family displaced from Katrina. that had come to stay with them. The campus was a shelter. Military helicopters shuttled supplies and rescuers to and from campus, and relief workers worked non-stop delivering medical and food supplies and clothing. Tigers players and coaches, moving mattresses and supplies and helping out however needed. All but 25 of our players were from Alabama and Mississippi as well as Louisiana.
