Historically, Curtis hasn't been our friend I agree. However, with such a great program they really haven't produced as many top flight players as you would expect in college. Off the top of my head I can go way back to Reggie Dupard and now Mcknight may have a chance, but I can't think of many other great ones. I think that a lot of Curtis kids peak early since many are in the program since grade school. In response to CParso's comment about WV and Louisville having success without much talent I agree, but there is an obvious reason. WV runs an odd offense that even took Tulane to an undefeated season way back when Rodriguez was their OC. Louisville too is thought of as a passing team and can recruit top notch QB's for there offense. If you want to build a program with less talent you need a passing or spread offense because you are not going to line up against superior athletes and run it down their throats. As for Tommy T., my LSU blood prohibits me from saying anything good about Auburn or him. I do know that Auburn steals a lot of good recruits from Georgia, which is traditionally more furtile than Alabama or LA for talent. Heh, without Texas talent Oklahoma would not have had as much success.
Really? Craig Wilson is the starting DE for West Virginia and their nationally ranked defense... Jonathan Wells, RB (formerly of the Houston Texans, recently signed by the Colts, alumni of Ohio State)... and just from this past year, I know of 3 players off the top of my head that signed to play for schools in 3 BCS conferences (Kentucky, Purdue and Arizona State). Just because you haven't heard of them, or just because they aren't all at the so-called "skill positions" (QB, RB, WR) doesn't mean they aren't "top flight"...
Your first word sums it up best. Really?--Really? I have respect for CParso because he has superior recruiting knowledge, but doesn't try to show other LSU fans up. Normally we don't want people that end up signing with Kentucky, Purdue or Arizona State. I forgot about Wells--he was "top flight". Our DL recruits have been excellent, so at least I don't think we will miss Craig Wilson.
They have very respectable talent. WV finished ahead of several SEC schools last year. Their recruiting class included one 5 star player, three 4 star and thirteen 3 star.
Sorry you're so sensitive. I tend to get a little "snippy" when I read "oh-woe-is-us" posts by people that didn't even bother taking more time to see how we compare to other big-time programs before posing a statement like "rivals doesn't think we are doing well" as if there was an article directly stating such. CParso is very knowledgible--especially in recruiting, yes. And thank you for pointing out to me that I tend to "show other LSU fans up"...it's not what I look to do right out of the gate all the time.
I know we compare favorably to other schools and have been around the top 5 to 10 in recruting over the last several years depending on the amt of schollys we have available that year. I was just pointing out that we have verbals from more 3 stars than usual for LSU's high standards per rivals rankings at this early stage. I expect we will get the vast majority of the remaining 4 star players in LA like we have done for the last few years. I think we will have a fine class, but not as good as in recent years -- like when we were ranked 2nd to USC's class. I'm not comparing our recruiting to other schools and saying we are lacking, I'm comparing it to LSU's past excellence. My past Vince Lombardi quote was an attempt at humor, not what I perceive to be reality.
There was some worry about the number of 3 stars we took in the summer last year. People wondering why we would take commitments from kids who "obviously" weren't that good. The class wasn't as big of a concern because we knew we were on plenty of other big-time prospects. I think that's part of the problem this year, it's not just that we have a few 3 stars commited, but that people don't see the big names showing a lot of interest in us. Fear not! We'll get plenty more 4 stars & top notch players this year. It won't be as good, but it's not a big deal. We'll be right back up there next year.
The text messaging ban is one of the things they are planning on addressing at the meetings coming up. Much like the changes we saw overturned with the rule changes on the field, there's a good chance this one may be overturned also. I read when the vote was coming up...but, can't recall off the top of my head.
Gracias. I guess the last few minutes looking for the article was a waste of time! Haven't found it... :hihi:
