Don't put so much emphasis on stars. Two and three star athletes often become starters. Of the first 100 players taken in the NFL draft, 21 were 2 star athletes in high school.
Well, if that's your mode of thinking, then I guess you should be thankful you're not a 'bama fan because their new "ALL EVERYTHING COACH" has 10 recruits and two of them are 2-stars.... Defending national champ, Florida only has TWO TOTAL commitments (both 4 stars)... Auburn has but 6 commitments where 5 are 3-star guys and one isn't even ranked... So if "Rivals doesn't think much" about our class, then they must feel that 'Bama, Auburn and Florida have classes that are TOTAL garbage! Dude, you're worrying too damn much. What? You expect 25 commitments by June and all of them have to be over 4-stars???? Relax! Historically, the vast majority of the blue chippers wait til after the regular season to commit anyways....And rankings change throughout the year as players will shuffle back and forth with their rankings.
I don't expect 25 players by now, but as others have said this is a down year by our standards. We won championships, SEC and National, with talent. Check out the top 10 teams every year and notice the direct correlation between recruiting rankings and the final rankings in the polls over time. We probably had as many 3 star players in all of last year's class as we do right now, if not more. I hope Parso is right and a few move up. I noticed rivals only ranked 9 guys in LA as 4 stars this year, which is a down year. We will probably get 5 or 6 of the guys left that are in the top 9, just based on what we normally get. Now we have another lineman from out of the blue giving us a verbal I see. To quote Vince Lombardi, "What the hell is going on around here!!!"
Dude....take a chill pill. Seriously... You want to use winning SEC and National championships as the basis of why you feel we should be sitting with more 4 and 5 star guys, but you fail to realize that Florida, THE DEFENDING NATIONAL AND SEC CHAMP has BUT TWO COMMITMENTS at this point. Jesus! I almost wish recruiting wasn't followed so damn closely like it is these days because people just freak the hell out and go all "Chicken Little" and think that the sky is falling in June for a signing day that isn't until February... :dis:
It isn't as direct as you might think. Florida St & Miami have had tons of top 10 classes in a row & been dissapointing lately. Other teams like Louisville/WVU & even Auburn are consistently outside the top 10 yet compete at the highest levels. At the beginning of last recruiting season people were griping about the 3 stars we were taking, but many of them became 4 stars & now it is revered as one of our best classes. Miles & his staff are absolutely fantastic at spotting talent. Every coach has recruits that fluctuate from 2 or 3 to 4 stars and vice-versa, but I've never seen any other coach with a better trend for increases in rankings as their senior season plays out than Miles. *Exception: Rivals & Scout tend to play into big markets, thus Bama recruits last year jumped up when they commited, but that wasn't based on talent evaluation it was based on selling subscriptions.
Should do better than 5-6 depending on if we have a need for them. With the exception of McKinight I believe Miles has signed every LA recuit he has gone after.
Well, reguardless of which program(s) a John Curtis Christian player visits, I never feel confident of landing them the way I do say a West Monroe product. Quite frankly, I did some brief research and found that of the 17 current Division I-A players from John Curtis, only 6....SIX....remained IN the state of Louisiana to play their college ball. Coach JT Curtis could care less about Louisiana schools, let alone LSU... In fact, the way he is always steering players outside Louisiana leads me to believe that if not for the simple fact that the school bears his name and is a "cush" job, that he wouldn't even stay in Louisiana. It just leaves a sour taste in my mouth to see how he acts towards Louisiana state schools, yet because of the athletics program his school has (recently named the 6th-best high school athletics program in the country by Sports Illustrated), TONS of the New Orleans metro area kids go there (including a relative of mine that signed to play at the University of Kentucky just this past recruiting class...but he wasn't offered by LSU, and UK was the only SEC school that I believed offered him, so in that reguard, I can't blame him....but he'll still be "Tiger Bait!" )
