According to Rivals.com we have 9 commits. Only 3 are 4-star players and the remaining 6 are 3-star guys. I'm sorry but it makes me nervous. I hope some of our verbals move up in rank in later updates. I trust our coaches instincts, but I am also aware that it helps our reputation to finish as high in the recruiting class ranks as possible.
It's probably a down year from the past couple of years comparatively for LSU recruiting. LSU should have a class ranked anywhere between 10-15 or so. If that's a down year, great. Having a class sandwiched like that between a stellar '07 class and what should be a great '09 class is nothing much to worry about right now.
Exactly. We have been great at keeping LA talent at LSU. It just happens to be a down year for LA talent. LA will have more up years than down.
It will be a down year for a few reasons. Recruits realize we have loaded up recently plus in state talent is awful this year. However, next years should be incredible. The guys we on board had early offers, which means the coaches really liked them.
As far as the talent in Louisiana, there’s no doubt it’s a “Down” year, Louisiana only has two in the top 100-Chris Tolliver, Matt Branch. By comparison, look at the #’s for the other states: California- 13, Texas- 12, Florida- 12, Alabama- 7, Georgia, 7. We need to hit the road. LVT..........."Unseal" the border.
And fast. While it is still only June, the recruiting cycle seems to be in high gear and many coaches got a serious head start. Marquis players were secured much earlier than in prior years and it seems that more of them are interested in "getting it over with" in order to focus on football. For sure some of them will change their mind come LOI day but that's a bad bet. With the changes in text messaging, the pressure will be on these kids when they camp.
LSU loaded up on early commits last year and had to let a couple of 4-star recruits go late in the season. Les can afford to be picky and wait.
A few of our 3 star recruits will move up to 4 stars. Miles has a great track record with early commits/strong leans moving up the recruiting rankings as they play their senior year. I think we'll finish in the top 8-12 range, which isn't bad. It isn't great, and may not have the stars at the top of the class that we'd like to see, but it will have some quality players in it. I won't be dissapointed if we finish in that range, but the QB position in particular is looking like it may be dissapointing. IMO, this isn't that big of a deal because I'm very high on Lee, plus a very good QB from Tx for next year's class already has us as his leader (Karam).
As long as these 3 stars are like Tyson Jackson, Chevis Jackson and Corey Webster I don't care much. I'll take those guys over knuckleheads like Willie Williams and Fred Rouse all day long.
