In 2002 UGA finished the season 13-1 (just like we did in 2003) and coincidently enough there only loss was to Florida (13-20). Just so happens that in 02' there happened to be two undefeated teams that kept UGA out of the NC game. In 2003 not only were there no undefeated teams but we squeaked into the NC game with a number of losses by teams ranked above us. That's what I mean by the ball bouncing our way and not in favor of UGA. Many felt that the 02' UGA team was good enough to win it all, but we'll never know cause the BCS is a horrible system. Last year many felt that UGA was NC worthy, but again, the ball didn't bounce their way but indeed bounced LSU's way in a MAJOR way.

To say Richt is a career underachiever is so far off it's not even funny. In an era of the BCS, you can't just measure a coache's worth by number of NC's, but rather his body of work and Richt's body of work is one of the best.

You don't have to be impressed, his track record speaks for itself. My question to you is, what exactly makes him an underachiever in your eyes?

Exactly what has already been said. Every other year it seems it's Gawga's turn to win it all yet they never get it done. They are in one of the best recruiting areas in the country and get plenty of talent yet can't seem to win the big one. Their biggest win in the Richt era is their Sugar Bowl victory over that football power house Hawaii. The old saying always the brides maid but never the bride seems to fit Richt's legacy at Georgia perfectly. I see Georgia under Richt much like Ohio State, a very good football program that is way over hyped and always seems to fall short of expectations. I'm not saying that Richt isn't a really good coach or that Georgia isn't a very good program. What I'm saying is that the team and the coach are annually over hyped.

Just difference of opinions here and you're obviously entitled to yours.

Until we get some sort of playoff, there is too much luck and crossing of the fingers in order to get into the NC game. Thus far, UGA hasn't caught the breaks we have to slide into the big game. Until we get a playoff I'll continue to grade coaches on their entire body of work as opposed to number of NC's alone.

I agree with the difference of opinions, but I'm not judging on lack of NC's alone. Look at their bowl wins under Richt. Florida state(struggling), Purdue, Wisconsin, Virginia tech, Hawaii and Michigan St. The most impressive win there being VT, the rest are less than impressive and all were close except Hawaii. There is also two bowl losses to West Virginia and Boston College. Other than pretty good regular season records most years nothing stands out as impressive.

Richt is a good coach but it would be frustrating to be a Georgia fan.

Indeed it's got to be frustrating to be good for so many years and can't seem to bring home the NC.
