Sure. Making All-American is as much about publicity as it is about sheer talent. LSU was fortunate to be on national TV almost every week this season incuding the opener, watched by everybody in which Steltz had three interceptions. He played very solid all year and got noticed for his hard-hitting and his nose for the football. He was a rare white defensive back with that long blonde hair. He got remembered. He isn't an NFL-standard safety by any means, with his lack of blazing speed. But he is a damn strong football player that got rewarded for hard work and a lot of TV exposure.
I think Red has it. Steltz didn't just get interceptions and hit hard. He broke up a lot of passes and kept a lot of RBs from getting extra yardage - he's a great tackler. Yes, he lacks outstanding speed. But he ran down a lot of RBs and WRs this year. I think Steltz's work ethic in the weight room and practice field made him into a fundamentals master and that's what got him noticed in the end.
I'm not saying he;ll be good I;m just saying he is a late round-free agent on somebody's roster I THink
I see Steltz going in the 4-5th round. He will have to develop some but I expect him to get some playing time in the NFL one day.
