Shannon Terry CEO of Rivals on Paul Finebaums's show, saying they had bad data on LA recruits. It's about 14 minutes. Can move to around 9:45 to hear the exact spot. His answer is to put a former Yale football player who graduated in 2005 in LA., to evaluate LA. talent & data collection. Interesting they were able to rank us, as Lavar Edwards & others were not evaluated.

    Former Yale football players.... :hihi:

As if that somehow qualifies them to judge talent.

I care less & less about the star system every year.

The only reason I care about our rankings is because it generates hype and makes it easier to be ranked highly in the preseason...which continues to be of great importance in this effed up BCS era we're in.

    Otherwise, it's meaningless.

I really enjoyed listening to Sonny talk about this on Ott and Sports Monday.

One of the most important things he said was that coaches know a whole lot more about these recruits and should be trusted 1st without a doubt. When rivals for example evaluates talent they might watch 1 or 2 games at the most and a highlight film. Coaches will watch each recruits highlight film, camps, and about 5 or more games they played in.

Another thing he said was that the star rankings should not really be looked at from a fan perspective but look at where they are ranked against others across the country at that position. A good example he used was FB Theriot. He is a 3 star but the #1 or #2 FB in the country.

Good points and I think probably right on target. In addition I would add that I am now of the impression that the Rivals and Scout MO is directed more at selling subscriptions than giving fans an honest evaluation of the players and their potential.

I think the information on both sites are great if you take it for what its worth. You just have to remember to look past the rankings. There are just too many kids out there to accurately rank these players relative to each other.

My comment wasnt political at all. My comment was about Hester, as good as he was. Whos the say that Williams or Scott couldnt have done the same or better. As I remember Williams had a hell of a game at VT. He did well when he got the carries.
    Thats my opinion
