you are definitely correct and i should have said that. i think gwynn is more talented/skilled than those other guys, he just isnt as big and strong. if i need a base hit, i would rather have gwynn at the plate than those other guys. true, but i do group him among the people that are suspicious. i am aware of that, but check out gwynn's strikeout and on base percentage numbers. you cant get him out. nope, my bad, i didnt mean to imply that. i did mean to imply that every power hitter from the 90's on is suspect. the all-time HR stats are so dominated by players from the steroid era that after the mid 90's it is hard to make sense of who isnt juiced. these stupid new tiny parks are also to blame and i hate them.
gwynn was awesome and a class act. plus hes funny along with that silly accent. here martian, check this out on your metrosexuals: http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/features/263075.html
This is true. In my opinion, the guy is one of the best. I hope he has a world of success where he is now. He deserves it and it would be great for baseball.
Nobody ever called Gwynn "small." :hihi: I can't believe this hasn't come up in this discussion, but clearly the best thing about Gwynn was his relationship with Rickey. Rickey used to call him "Gwen" and couldn't figure out why people thought that was odd. He also openly thought Rickey was better than Gwen, which he was, but that seemed preposterous to the San Diego locals. I'm pretty much a fan of any athlete that makes me think of Rickey. It's really the only reason I like John Olerud.
I assume you mean Ricky Henderson. Didn't realize he was deserving enough to go by just his first name.
He always refers to as himself Rickey. One time he even called his GM and said "Rickey thinks Rickey should be making more money"
In a football context, I would of course be referring to my boy Ricky Williams. But in a baseball context, there is only one Rickey.
