Sorry to hear this, but thanks for posting it. He was a nifty option QB for LSU in the 60's, right after Screen and Billy Ezell, or about 65 - 66. He got injured a few times that limited his playing time, or he'd have been better.

I remember him well also. Wasn't Tommy Morel his top receiver? I believe this was the same period when we couldn't kick an extra point to save our lives. He brings back memories of John Ferguson broadcasting on the radio. We were on TV only about twice a year. Sad to hear that he has left us.

His playing days were before my time but remember him as the coach of the Cajuns for many years. His son Brandon was a year older than me and known mostly as a baseball/basketball player in high school. He finally played football his senior year when they brought in a coach to air it out and was all state at WR in 5A.

When Brandon played with the Cajuns, he put up big stats but I wasn't sure if he had NFL talent. He's far exceeded the expectations with a 10+ year career that includes a long TD catch in the Super Bowl to earn a ring, a good stretch with the Colts that led Peyton to call him the "best slot receiver in NFL history", and the miracle catch last year for the Broncos. At least Nelson was able to enjoy his son's career.

Stokley Coached me in college and his son Brandon along with Kyle Kipps were ball boys.

Stokley had Alzheimers pretty bad at the end.

I worked in sports information at USL when Stokley was the coach. USL had some good talent then Delhomme at QB, Clement at tackle, O. Thomas at safety, and of course Brandon Stokley at WR - guys who all played in NFL. I played golf with Coach, Brandon and Kathy in a tournament and had a great time. He was great to me and I am saddened to hear about his death. May God Bless him and his family.

Didn't Stokely fire Kipps' dad when he committed to LSU?

I remember him like it was yesterday. Great game against Hogs in '67 Cotton Bowl until he reinjured his knee. Tigers upset Hogs!
