Well, not sure what to say about a projection like that. If he only carries the rock 12 times, then hopefully KW, Shepard, and Ridley would have quite a few carries, too, and our rushing totals are better than you show above. Also, if his 26 yards include a TD or two, say after an LSU interception inside their 30 yard line, and CS runs a 7 yarder into the endzone, I will certainly take his stat line. I get what you are alluding too, but projections are speculation. LSU is passing the ball better, our offense seems to be smoother the last two games, so the defense will have to honor that a little more, and maybe he does better than you think, maybe not. I don't see LSU blowing out ALA anyway, as long as they win, I will take that speculated CS stat line above. I certainly see us rushing it more than 12 total times, so that means others are getting the ball, which in addition to making YOU happy, would be a great change of pace, and actually make CS more effective potentially (since we are speculating so much):hihi:
Maybe if our OL can crack open a window for him to run through, maybe not if our OL can't crack that window open.
Ridley makes quicker cuts than CS and seems to have better vision, but he can't drag defenders like Scott does. Conversely, Scott relies on his considerable power way too much and doesn't neccessarily TRY to find the cuts. I like that kind of smash-mouth mentality for short-yardage situations, and that will be missed when he's gone. They both will prove to have their strengths and weaknesses. For now though, let's not forget that CS wore down that Greenie defense with over 100 yards and a couple of TD's last night before Ridley came in against a defense that had nothing left to play for. I'm a Ridley fan, and his time is coming. He'll be the next great one, following right along in a long line of good backs to wear the P&G, including our very own Chuck the Truck. It's a good problem.
Scott is a powerful guy, the problem is you need more than just power... actually Scott has decent speed when he runs in a straight line however he has no quickness to switch direction and then turn on the jets. He has limited ability to make people miss. He is basically down to running between the tackles, all the teams just stuff that play and Scott is down to running up the back of the Center. The problem is two fold, Scott has limited ability and the OC telegraphs the play calls. It appears with Ridley you have the full package... he basically showed everything in just one drive. I for one think Scott has been a great Tiger, but that does not make him a great TB, he is a FB and everyone wants to make him something he is clearly not. I said before the start of the year that Scott play was not going to work just like it didn't work last year after the first 4-5 games. He might have a few plays here or there or even a good game but week in and week out... it just isn't going to be constant. I swear you could see the marbles in Les head going around when Ridley making those plays. I am not saying Scott couldn't have picked up big plays also in that situation...but there is no way Scott has that combination of moves, speed, power and vision.... there is no way Scott has that ability to do what Ridley was doing.... it wasn't just one thing.... he showed it all. There is time and place for Scott, I just get upset when people try and make him something he is not. Ridley gives you the opportunity to now do under center pitch plays but we will have to wait and see.
It's been a while since I've seen a back with Ridley's explosiveness, vision and cutting ability in purple and gold. I've been watching almost every SEC team unleash this type of back for years and wondered why LSU hasn't had one yet. I don't depend on the opposing defense to see the skills a running back has. Ridley has it and I hope Miles is smart enough to take advantage of it if needed although we all know he will stick to his seniority ladder first.
Does anyone think that maybe the reason why Scott isn't as explosive or quick cutting is because of all the weight Miles asked him to gain? Scott being 15 - 20 pounds lighter I think would be a beast. The problem is we needed him to fill a role that we had no answer for. And he seems like he's the ultimate team player, because he accepted the role of FB willingly just because it'd help the team. I certainly hope some NFL team takes a chance on him and gets him on the tread mill a bit. I'd love to see the CS of old.
Well, I'm a Scott fan (vice a "the guy on the bench is better" guy.) But Ridley is definitely more explosive than Scott, and he's always impressed. If he had stayed healthy this year, there's a good chance he would have gotten the majority of snaps at TB. But I don't think the result in terms of LSU's running game would be considerably different. Because the cause of the lack of running game is not Charles Scott. And you might be right about Scott's stats next week. What you don't say, but should, is that noone is running well against Bama this year (#2 in the country at 65ypg). You see, their defense is sorta good...
oh yes no doubt, and that's why I came up with that projected stat line....the opposing defense obviously dictated the numbers for me I am just saying that we can't just continue to fail at running Scott and getting nothing out of it and creating these 2nd and 3rd and longs for Jefferson. He won't succeed Saturday if that is the case. I just wanna see Ridley get a couple of shots. I have seen a new tailback come into the game and rip a couple of runs and all of a sudden the O-line plays much more inspired. Otherwise we could easily fall into that trap of "here we go again" and from a mental aspect we'll be done.
