Has Williams been arrested for drug use? And the league has shown that it takes A LOT of DWIs before it results in huge suspensions/bans.
maybe ricky is just happy with his life without football. i dont blame him if he wants to just settle down and smoke. maybe play a little in canada, smoke a little more, chill out on a beach in thailand or whatever he does. cant see any angle where i should be critical of ricky. i think losing him hurts the nfl, i like watching him. and i like when he does interviews in his helmet and acts awkward in interviews. i dunno why everyone has to be an company-line-spouting automaton. and especially when you contrast ricky with the other violent criminals in the league, you should recognize what a harmless and good-natured fellow ricky is (or appears to be from the perspective of a joe-average-fan like me). i think maybe rick has asperger's syndrome or something and would rather get high than deal with chumps.
Marijuana use debates aside, letting someone with a VERY known history of substance abuse continue to play sets a precedent that goes down a bad road. I know he's a gentle-natured fellow. A friend of mine's sister dated him when he lived in NO and when he moved to Miami he gave my friend an Armani suit and his TV. I've never heard of him starting a bar fight or getting arrested for abuse. But at the same time, he knows the rules. There are other personalities, like LT, that are entertaining on and off the field. Remember his postgame rant against the entire Pats and Belechick after the playoff game? It's sad to see someone with such talent ruin his career like that, but if someone is content with life you can't make them do anything. He's obviously happy and he has to know that no substances that affect performance (either better or worse) can be allowed.
Why? Do we ban other entertainers that like to use marijuana, you know, like 90% of the movie and music industry? Ironic that you would bring up one athlete (The Original LT, not LDT) who had a serious drug problem, and neither the fans nor the league was particularly concerned as long as he was productive on the field. Not to mention his other litany of crazy-related issues. Seems like a perfect illustration of how the country has become increasingly judgmental and sissified.
Do they have a set list of rules they must follow or they'll get penalized (even in the offseason)? I personally don't give a cxhit what Ricky or any other football player does in his spare time. But Ricky knows it's not only illegal, but against the rules in the NFL. He also knows he's going to get tested, and he's going to fail if he smokes it up. He's the poster child for "stupid should be illegal". Hell, I hope he gets suspended just for being dumb enough to fail another one.
It's ashame what that guy has thrown away. He does have a lot of issues/demons he's battling. Not a justification, but he's not "Normal". :hihi: Hell, who is though, most of us have things from childhood- in one form or another- that we've had to overcome. Life is a bitch.
Boy did the Saints make the right move when they traded him to Miami when they did! It's a sad state of affairs for someone like Ricky Williams. To waste all that talent and financial fortune because he simply can't kick the pot habbit. :dis: This guy needs to grow up....
I do agree that the rule is dumb. I don't care if smoke pot, or breaks any other NFL rules. I just think it should be illegal to be stupid. Failing this many test, knowing that he's gonna be tested, is stupid.
Ok, what is the next punishment in line for a repeat offender. He's gotten the one year suspension already. Does he get banned?
