Very good article about him and his situation: Murphy isn't naive. He knows the uncertainty surrounding him and the entire LSU team this season. After a disappointing 9-4 finish last season, the Tigers are picked to finish fourth in the SEC West, something that doesn't make Murphy very happy but does give him motivation to prove the skeptics wrong. The Tigers' fall workouts begin Aug. 4, and he said he wishes he could start sooner. "I don't necessarily feel pressure, but I feel like it's my time now," he said. "Everybody has a story to tell. I have one big story, and this is the year that everybody will hear it. I know what I have to do, I'm just waiting on my opportunity to do it." Overcoming obstacles: Rayville's Richard Murphy ready for impact year at LSU | thenewsstar.com | The News Star I'm pulling for him, the kid has certainly had more than his share of adversity.
I had no idea about him losing his parents or messing up his other knee in HS. . .or that he had a son. I hope he dominates this year and gets drafted early (if he doesn't pursue a medical red-shirt).
And the last LSU RB coming off of something like that was Broussard, right? As great as he was in 2004, he never quite looked the same. The difference between he and Murphy is that he was more of a bruiser and a heavier guy. Murphy is a smaller, shiftier back, and I'm not sure if his knee injury was as bad. Justin Vincent also had knee problems, I think. He didn't quite look the same either afterward. Either way, I'm hoping Murphy returns in full form.
Yup, gotta rout for Murphy. I hope he is able to medical redshirt, since it seems like the 2nd year is where you return to form.
Alley had motivation issues coming back from the injury and Justin Vincent simply put on weight. My gut tells me Murphy will be fine physically. How much PT he gets is another matter but if Miles' history is anything, he'll be given every opportunity to play.
There are numerous players that crash and burn after torn ACL’s (Jamal Anderson, Terrell Davis, etc.) But There are some that have been able to put it past them and move on, Adrian Peterson. I have torn an ACL, ****s hurts, and the hardest part of recovery, is the fear of it happening again. Its more mental. I think if he can over come that and try to stay a north & south rusher he will have a solid year. But I think its going to be the hard nose Stevan Ridley who is going to put some line backers on their A$$ this season. I hope we get a peak at Ford too, Id like to see him in action. I am also looking for productive seasons from Randle, RS, & Deangelo Peterson
