Speaking of booing and Les Miles and the fact that Halloween is just around the corner does anybody know it there is any place that sells Les Miles masks?
I don't think I'd argue against his physical gifts, but neither is ready between the ears and id probably give jennings the edge there at this point. I was impressed with Harris' post game interview and the disposition of both... But I thought if you don't clearly name a starter both will spiral out of control (sarcasm). I'll also say, we won our recent NCs not with physically gifted freaks (at least relatively), but with guys who got it between the ears.
I don't think anyone would argue that Russell was more talented than Mauck or Flynn but you're right, Russell just couldn't get the mental aspect of the game. I really thought Jennings would be awesome, it's just so hard to tell how much of this is on him and how much is on the coaching staff.
Hell, he's just a SOPH. He'd probably do better under Sumlin now, but we're trying to make him into a more pro-style mobile QB that is probably better for him long term if he can turn the corner. I just wish we could have got him more reps in game last year. Basically our sucky D last year cost us a NC this year and hurt our prospects for a damn strong year this year. It could also affect the psyches of both Jennings and Harris if not handled correctly (so far it seems like we're not handling correctly) and the culture of the entire team. That's a lot for one year of sucky D.
I think they all do. Top teams rely on experienced coordinators because it is all too much for a head coach to do. He's the boss for damn sure, but just like in any organization the boss has to delegate major tasks and let the managers manage.
Some bosses delegate and it works out great. Some delegate and lose control of the process and everything falls apart. On the other hand some bosses micromanage their company into bankruptciy and others are very successful micromanagers. It depend on the person and the people he selects to work under him. I would bet every dollar I've ever had or will have that Nick Saban is a micromanager. But a very successful micromanager. I'm not at all sure to what degree Les delegates or micromanages. I do believe that given free reign both John Chavis and Cam Cameron would do a great job and all phases of the game and of teaching and developing the talent they have to work with
