Rewatched the Florida game, LSU is essentially playing with 9 1/2 players on defense

So you just look at the stat sheets and you don't bother to watch video on him. I did. I watched the game a 2nd time completely through. I focused on Welter and Loston because I wanted to know if I was overreacting in my generalization of their play. I saw his tackles. He made one good play, which stopped a 3rd down conversion. Well done. I have even commented on that play in another thread, giving him credit. I even characterized his play vs Florida as "satisfactory" and someone called me out on that. I now see why they did such a thing.

I thought you were smarter than that. I am shocked that you blindly look into a stat sheet and form a complete opinion on a player. That's absurd. And this is coming from a stat freak. Nobody in the world loves stats more than I. "Stats don't tell the entire truth" has never been more profound a saying than in Welter's case.

while I'm not as vehement as islstl is about Welter, look at what he's saying. Yes he has a lot of tackles, to be honest he gets to the guys and he's being ran at A LOT. 2 TFL, 1 of them being a sack. Most of his tackles have him being carried and/or a tackle that is not getting up there and stopping the hit.

I really do think he's a bit timid or worried about taking a hit.

It's teetering on being outright "scared". It's that bad.

I'm trying to be nice about it, but yeah you're right. I think maybe it's from Blue, Hill, Hilliard, and Copeland running his ass over in practice.

So what did the staff see in Welter in the spring? You're right, you could easily see our RBs/FBs embarrassing Welter out on the practice field. So why did he pass the eyeball test for the coaches after what had to have been a pretty disheartening set of practices? Did they throw their hands up and say "well that's all we got, we will have to go with him"?

The only thing I can think of is what Red and LSUDad have said, he's the one "qbing" the defense. Calling out shifts, making sure people are in the right place etc. Maybe he understands the defense better than the other guys. I just don't see the production. Or maybe the kid just has stage fright and fucks up on the field but in practice is money (that was me in basketball, ball my eyes out in practice, couldn't shoot when people were in the stands).

All I know is I want to see more Beckwith on the field.

I'm not saying I saw that in the game ... I'm saying it's possibly what they saw in practice LOL.

Hey criticize Welter all you want. Call him the antichrist. You've done just about everything else. What I'm saying is that crazy comments like "Welter is useless"; "Welter has to go"; "Welter is the worst recruiting mistake"; is simply not justified. It's a stupid a remark as "LSU is essentially playing with 9 1/2 players on defense". LSU is doing no such thing. John Chavis is doing pretty damn well with the players he has. The team is improving. If we had a better middle linebacker he would be playing.

We get it. You hate Welter. But you go on and on and on about it. He's a Tiger and he's playing hard out there. I'm going to support him. Ishtissle throws a hissy fit anytime someone disagrees with him, but tough shit. I disagree. Live with it.
