It's easy to forget, and most Bama fans do, that we were running away with the game in the first quarter/half until we started shooting ourselves in the foot. Bama fans will try to make you think they dominated the entire game.
I watched it a couple of days ago too and that was what I basically got. It definitely can change your outlook for this years team. However, Im sure the cardiologists here will disagree.
I admit that he had a game or 2 like that, but I wouldn't go so far as to say 'Flynn wasn't THAT good last year' like Bandit did. I think he may have been talking about in this game only and if true, then I agree. I took that as him saying Flynn's performance over the entire year wasn't that good. That's would I disagreed with.
I voted this the play of the year, when we had that thread on the subject. Incredible play. And I think Flynn was under duress as he threw it. Even more incredible.
Fanatic - to be clear, when I say it wasn't THAT good, I'm saying it wasn't so good that it carried the team. I'm saying he was solid, made plays when the team needed it, and was resilient. But he wasn't so good that it would be impossible for Lee or Hatch to match his performance. He made a lot of errors, both passing and just game management (useless timeouts to avoid penalties, delay of game stuff, etc). The biggest attribute, again, was his composure. If Hatch or Lee can replicate that, then they can conceivably have a year like Flynn did last year, especially with this OL and WR and RB group.
I hear ya, but I disagree that it was "a game or 2 like that". Flynn was not the same after the ankle injury, which I believe occurred in the Va Tech game. (second game of the season) Add the shoulder injury later in the year, and you'll see that for most of the season, he was not very good...albeit due to injury. Luckily, he had weeks to heal before the BCSCG. With the way things have turned out, I am glad he was the one to beat tOSU...and not Perrilloux.
