Me too..I'd rather get Chad Jones no matter what happens this year, Chad is sick. But I do think 99% Laron is gone.
He stated, in an interview on rivals, that Les Miles' in-home visit with him has put LSU out in front of UGA (he said UGA was in the lead prior to Miles' visit). But that may not be for long....he's having his official visit at UGA this weekend... Miles DID tell him that he would play in the first game of the '06 season should he chose to attend LSU--my guess is that he'd be incerted as a sub to either LaRon or Jessie Daniels--to give them a breather, or perhaps in on a 4-2-5 as the 3rd safety.
Getting Reshad would be major. Personally, I feel like we need this kind of big time safety. With Laron leaving after next season, we will have him as a backup next year & a starter for us after that... Miles has told Reshad that he will play in the first game of the year next season, so obviously Miles feels this is a big pickup for us as well. I really hope we land him.
In the event that we don't land him, what are your thoughts/feelings about the current safety recruits committed to us (Clemons, McCray and possibly Giddens) along with current Tigers Curtis Taylor and Chris Hawkins? Since it was reported that Shomari Clemons MIGHT not be fully qualified for '06 and McCray and Giddens positions still up in the air (i.e. will they play OLB or Safety???--especially if we lose Riley and Shepard to Tenn. we'll have holes at OLB that will need to be addressed), I feel that reguardless of Taylor and Hawkins' abilities, we still need a "true safety" to provide competition to both Taylor and Hawkins beyond next season (where we'll lose BOTH Landry AND Daniels to graduation). IMO, Jones is indeed a BIG priority and would be a tramendous boost/help to the safety position. I just don't like the fact that we JUST moved past UGA atop his leader board with Miles' in-home visit but his official to UGA coming this weekend...
If we land Reshad, he will be Laron's backup & take over the position after next season. I really feel like he would be the guy behind Laron if he came here. The other guys are nice to have, but not capable of being "the guy" right away like Reshad can.
