Usain Bolt can't run 4.12. Verifiable must be a loose term here.

Usain doesn't get his speed by exploding off the starting line. His speed comes from his long stride. I would expect TH to beat UB 10 out of 10 in the 40.

bolt is awesome at every stage of the race.

his 60m split is .2 faster than TH personal best in the 60.

    bolt would run about a 4.1 40

And in turn Bo Jackson would beat trindon holliday by almost two tenths? No way.

I understand your point about Bolt and he may have been a bad example but my point was that running a 4.12 is not possible. Not from a standing start (no block) and reaction time to a gun. It's not possible.

His start has gotten much better but is not totally consistent yet. He doesn't get blown off the line anymore but really doesn't have lead at 30 or 40 meters.

bolt is not awesome at every stage. spend a little time on youtube. he is getting better, but there are lots of videos where he is in 3rd or 4th place at 30-40m.

we aren't talking about 60m splits now are we

there are tons of very logical extrapolations that show UB running anything from 3.9 to 4.4. no way you can definitively say what he would run. what there is no doubt about is how he pulls away from everyone at around the 50m mark.

Not trying to be a smarta$$ or anything, but how do you know this? I've wondered what Bolt's time in the 40 would be, but I can't find anything that says he's ever run one.

I know the people like to say he picks up he speed later in the run with his long strides, so he wouldn't do well in the 40, but all that is is speculation. The only way for us to really know is if he runs it.
That's the common perception, but I'm not so sure. For him to run the 100m and 200m as fast as he did, he's got to have speed from start to finish.

That's not to say he doesn't get fast as the race goes on, but I think its wrong to think that he's slow out of the gates and somehow has a burst of speed around 50m that pushes him to WR times.

he is awesome at every stage. his early splits are in line with the best ever--doped up ben, carl, mo, powell. but im not saying he is the best early (but he probably is considering he has the fastest 10-20 and 30-40 splits ever), but TH isnt even in the picture.

i brought up the 60 because it is by far the best comparison. both are track times no consideration of blocks, reaction time, spikes or distance conversion needed.
