Did Saban just give Bama what they thought was a bargain in exchange for having a buyout clause removed?

He's never had a buyout clause in any of his contracts.

Does the market demand a coach getting this kind of compensation? It's a good debate in my eyes especially when you have a guy like Kevin Sumlin getting five million a year and he's yet to win anything of significance. (He's got a five mill buyout, fwiw.)

Wow the return of the prodigal son...did the anti depressants wear off that quickly? LOL Seriously Sexton did his job and got Nick what he wanted besides $$$....probably more and tighter control.

Hell, I was over that ballgame Sunday morning. As stated here several weeks ago, I didn't go into this season expecting another trip to the BCSNC—odds were too great against it happening. Such a weird way to end the regular season though. It's a game that'll be talked about 30 and 40 years from now. (A degree of disappointment is felt not getting a chance to watch the Tide take on OSU.)

You're missing the story here. There's been nothing unusual in conversations between UA and Sexton. The contract extension and raise were coming at the end of the regular season. It was a given considering he didn't accept a raise last year but pushed for assistants compensation and the new weight room. The general agreement was in place before the game against Auburn.

On "more and tighter control." How? What?

On a different note...considering it looks like winter is moving in for its annual month here...those anti-depressants may be in order soon. No golf, no fishing...at least there will be a handful of good football games in the next month.

Terry I like you dude, but you have your head in the sand if you believe everything you post about Saban. And I will guarantee you that their are some people at the top of the Bama food chain that wish Sexton was retired. And I'll bet they are just a frustrated as Skip used to be in having to deal with Sexton and Saban every December/January.

I think most of us knew Saban would likely stay at Bama, I don't think he would leave except for the NFL again. He wouldn't want to step down to a conference like the Big 12. And I'm not to sure he has too many NFL execs contacting Sexton right now after the Miami fiasco. That's why he signed so early in December.

The Bama people will grow very weary of this but they wouldn't dare not negotiate to keep him.

This is likely a situation where you and I approach things differently. I lean towards believing what I'm told, by people I trust, versus taking a skeptical view. (That comes with an exception which I'll touch on in a second.)

Case example is furk. I'm told he's a pretty good fella. His "Internet personality" would leave the impression he's an ass. I don't buy it.

The one thing I find ironic in all of this is one of the guys I trust, when it comes to what's happening in the Saban household, is a guy I met when CNS was coaching at LSU. He, along with those that you refer to as being "at the top of the Bama food chain," respect Sexton for what he does. He's good at his job.

I can't make a comment on the frustration Skip may have felt. I can comment on how the current, and former, athletic director feel about Saban. Battle, as the former owner of CLC, understands a market driven economy. I suspect you do as well.

As to his "signing," if you don't think it was timed to coincide with the Texas football banquet? It was a calculated move I was told about Weds. of last week. (My fandom did enjoy the fact it happened like it did with so many at that banquet focused on their smartphones when it was announced.)

I find myself questioning why there's a need felt for explanation...but, I'll repeat myself, again.

While you may not fall in this category, there were a lot here that hung their hopes on Saban leaving as one last "I told you so." Despite the effort to point to this story being dead in the late winter/early spring of this year, the concerted efforts trying to substantiate this story as having legs...well, they are walking on stumps.

BTW, the biggest farce I've seen in this whole story is how the Texas program is built up.
