1996 Season. Florida & Florida State:

Gators were #1, Seminoles #2. Last game of season Seminoles win 24-21.

Rematch in Sugar Bowl, Florida wins 52-20, AND their first National Title.

What other examples can you think of in any sport?

The difference in our case, if it happens, is that you'd have a team that lost its Division and lost its Conference, and yet has an opportunity to win the National Championship.

This is a radical departure from the "old" system before the BCS. There used to be a very strong reluctance to set up regular season rematches in the bowl games.

My personal belief is that the BCSNC game should feature two teams that are Conference Champions, and NOT some kind of wildcard team like Bama.

You are absolutely correct and that is a valid point.

In reality it's to feature the two BEST.

To the very team it would play in the championship game. The BCS mantra has always been that "every game counts". Well unless you are Alabama, USC, ND or the few chosen programs. I sure hope the voters do what they did to Michigan in 2006, one caveat though ok state and Virginia tech need to keep winning.

Over the years it has proven to not necessarily be the two BEST teams, rather the two highest ranked per the system. In 2003, USC was better than OU but didn't get in.

I agree and why I can't understand why one year when it looks to actually GET the best two teams, we don't want it. :hihi:

This BCS system should not set up any NC game that would diminish the value of a Conference Championship or even a Division Championship. To do so would be radical departure from the former system.

The former system needed tweaking, so it was tweaked. There was never an intent to radically depart from the foundations and principles of the former system.

I hope that the voters agree with me that no team that lost its Division and lost its Conference should play for it all, regardless of anybody's subjective BELIEF that it is "second best". I do not wish to have wildcard teams in this new system, and I hope that the voters agree.

Which team is second best is a subjective decision. In 2007, Georgia claimed to be second best or perhaps even best. They based their conclusion on subjective criteria.

I hope that the voters agree with me that we should retain the old system's dislike of setting up bowl game re matches of regular season games. It would be a radical departure to discard that principle from the old system.

Which team is BEST, too. Auburn 2005.

I agree with you that they should change it. A simple, "A team must win their conference" clause would do.

when OU lost to K St surely the powers that be would have declared you must win your conference to play in the title game if thats how they wanted it.

however they left it open in case the two best teams are in the same conference or division in this case.

FSU and Miami were the top 2 teams as was OSU and Michigan in the distant past.

This year the top 3 teams may be from the same division.

There is no rule you must win your conference and until then, its the top 2 teams who should play for it all.

we get a free pass against UGA if we lose. Thats the bonus for winning the regular season.
