Read the explanation earlier on a different site. You have to donate via TAF which then allocates the money to the foundation. Otherwise, if you just donated to someone else or to him, it's considered illegal benefits by the NCAA. The LSU compliance office has already cleared things with the NCAA on how to properly set it up to avoid it being considered an infraction. This way was the only way for it to remain "legal" in the eyes of the NCAA. So, it doesn't seem to be LSU's preferred method...but the only one the NCAA would agree to.
Glad to hear I am not the only one having problems. Someone needs to let the TAF know that is turning potential donors off.
I'm glad no one from Alfred's family was hurt and it's most definitely a worthy cause, but didn't they have insurance that can also assist them? I thought insurance is a requirement for owning a home. Not trying to offend or seem disingenuous, but I am curious about this. Every little bit helps and I hope his family gets an insurance settlement and the donations.
I smell NCAA violations. TAF members are boosters. Would this not fall under the "extra benefits"? EDIT: Just read the link and it may be set up this way NOT to be in violaion with NCAA rules. From the link:
When I 1st started reading the thread, I was reminded of Tulane's basketball program in the 1980's that received the "death penalty" - in part - when Ned Fowler gave Hot Rod Williams $20.00 so his family could grab a motel the night their trailer burned to the ground. (That and the fact that the players were point shaving.)
often times a family will have insurance as a requirement, but if a family is pressed and cant afford full insurance, they can cover the dwelling for mortgage requirements, and have little to no contents coverage. the dwelling insurance goes right into escrow only to be released to the mortgage company or to to the builder when rebuilt, to make sure it actually covers the dwelling so the mortgage company is protected. if the family did not have or had little contents coverage, they are gonna be hurting. add to that, even if they had some contents coverage, it could take a while for insurance to get a appraiser out there and then a claim approved. or even after appraised, it could take a while for approval, and there is no money for expenses now, such as some clothes and basic necessities. been there, done that, too. with a loss we had in oklahoma, even with dwelling and contents, because of so many disasters, hurricanes in the ne, and wildfires in oklahoma and texas, the insurance companies are short handed and it takes a while to get an adjuster out, and then the claim gets into a backlog of claims waiting for approval.
