I have a little trouble with the notion that fumbles are a coach's fault. Like, he didn't tell them "don't fumble" enough? If a coach wrote "NO FUMBLES" on a chalkboard and pointed to it every day, would that team never fumble?
You're taking it to the extreme. A perfect coach knows when to tell his players that the situation is crucial, and he can't afford a fumble. For instance, when a team is receiving the ball down 3 points with less than 5 minutes to go, a coach should tell his kick returner that ball security is extremely important. The second issue is that a coach should put in his best or must trustworthy kick returner in that situation. You will note that whenever the Steelers receive a crucial punt, Antonio Brown is receiving. The overall notion is really just that a coach needs to ensure that his team pays attention to detail. We haven't had more than 1-2 miscues per game under Oeaux, but this game there were plenty, which is a trend reflective of the players' attitudes. Ultimately, the fumbles are mostly the players' fault, but you can't leave the coach out when they are part of a trend in a single game.
This sucks we were clearly the better team. It's so frustrating. We pretty much gave them the ball and 4 trips to the Red Zone and only 10 points WTF!!!!
He already had a tightrope to walk before he lost the Bama game. It's much tougher now. But he was in contention for a job much higher than his resume would afford, all things equal.
He's being called to the carpet for Miles' sins, plus he had to be just short of perfect. This loss was less than that.
Cock n balls n.....you forgot something. Fans may like to give him a pass. He won't get one from the AD. You are 100% correct....he did know going in. He's been at this rodeo before. I think the one thing that's different is the way he will be treated this time around....like family instead of an outsider.
Coach Oeaux was never the reason we fired Miles. There was mild optimism because of the person he is that if things went extremely well he could coach him self into the Head Coach spot, but it was never more than that. None of this is his fault. In fact, this is still very much a Miles team with Miles recruits and Miles system. Miles had his fingers all in the O and it is evident. It is not something you can just flip overnight. Just like Aranda cant come in in year 1 and make our Dline more than what they are.
Sure, that's part of coaching. Those things are the result of poor preparation, and the coach must be accountable for that as well.
