I actually used to be just the opposite. Expected perfection from myself and couldn't understand why others didn't. Coming to understand that the way EYE thought didn't mean everyone else was supposed to, also, made me a much more understanding person.
I'd argue that if you're reduced to criticizing individual plays on a night when your offense scored 38 and averaged 8 yards a play, you already you've negated your own point. But you didn't even address the issue....did the play fail because it was a bad call, or because one player completed failed at his job?
Right. I demand that those multimillionaire rap and hip-hop stars play real music that I like. And don't get me started on baseball. The best hitters fail to get a hit almost 70% of the time.
Post-BAMA and I stand by this assessment more than ever. Ensminger simply doesn't have what it takes. The obvious approach against Alabama's brick wall for both running and passing would have been shotgun, which would allowed both Etling and Fournette to keep their eyes downfield. Quick passes, quick deceptions versus power football. Other teams with lesser talent upfront understand that and gained a lot more than we did.
I agree on this Rex. Our guys are not totally inept. There must have been a way to open up something. Most likely spreading them out and tossing it around from the gun would have helped. I thought we would see some of it in the second half. The problem with it though is that things can go south quickly if you turn it over and I think that defense makes many coordinators get super conservative to minimize mistakes. In that regard it worked. They just couldn't generate anything with that approach. Would have been nice to try something else but Etling hardly had any time and when he did you could tell he was rattled.
