No, you don't do that... and it's why Steve Ensminger probably should not be anybody's permanent offensive coordinator. It was boneheaded. I have no problem with passing in that situation. But just as Cam Cameron didn't save his job by passing with more frequency it's the DESIGN that's more important. A slow-developing play action pass deep in your own territory is what separates the smart from the dumb.... YOU DON'T DO THAT. Fine with the notion of play action, too.... but how about one from shotgun with a RB on your side and just a quick fake.... one that keeps the QB looking downfield and capable of seeing any breakdowns? If nothing's there then throw it away. Yeah, even the best OC makes occasional mistakes, and not everything works, and sometimes shit happens. But I look back to that attempted reverse where Chark almost got killed.... we had done nothing up to that point that would make Ole Miss fall for it. He's certainly been an improvement... because Cameron was utterly incompetent... but sorry, Steve, I just can't see you here permanently, either.
I would wholeheartedly agree with that assessment. Jury still very much out on Ensminger. Let's see what he can dial up against the best defense in the nation. They lost their number 1 all American corner. He better take advantage of that fact.
Meh. It was a bad play but those happen. We have had more more explosiveness since he took over. That's a fact.
What if O called it? Fire him I suppose. You boys need to lay off the Xbox. Way too much over analyzation of one play to decide a coaching hire especially if you don't know who called it. We do know it wasn't Les miles.
You certainly don't know. Stupid argument either way. Ensminger has doubled offensive output seemingly overnight .
If it would have worked people would be licking his nuts. He called a play, it didn't work and it got Etling smoked. I'd rather have an aggressive guy who wants to score than a pussy. That being said the thing to do would have been to give the rock to Fournette to see if he could make some space between the ball and your own goal line. That being said, I don't mind the aggressiveness
I think his point is well taken that we put ourselves in a bad spot by calling a long developing play deep in our territory. What if we did this at our 1 yard line? It would have been clear that the play call was ill-advised.
