Alabama can only take 25 in this class so the recruits have to go somewhere, and every other team in the country has their noisy malcontent fans on every blog, forum, etc. mouthing off about there piss poor coach.
I'm finding the end to this recruiting season about as boring yet distressful as could be, almost like LSU is a "never was" school to play for. I sure hope there are a couple of nice surprises come signing day because it sure appears to me that no matter how great of a regular season we had, the NCG dropped us many notches in the eyes of the recruits. That game seems to have exposed weaknesses in our offensive philosophy we all knew were there but were willing to forget because we could impose our will on outmatched competition. We need to really focus on a more creative offense, especially regarding the passing game. It appears the main piece is in place with Mett, but it still has to be shown that CLM is capable of change when needed. I beleive it can, and will, happen. But I also thought we turned the page last year when JL lead our team, before he fell out of favor with CLM. Otherwise, it may be a while before we attract the best QBs and receivers coming out of high school. I have no worries about our defense as long as Coach Chavis is around. Same for special teams.
alabama will recruit and obtain way more than 25 .... this year and every year. you are correct about every fanbase having its malcontents .... and a corresponding number of posers that continually troll and fan the flames.
Not quite sure I understand your logic here. Aren't many of the losses on the D side of the ball (Collims, Dural, Edwards, Howard etc)? Yes we lost Keil, but he was a late push and it doesn't seem like it was anything but family and distance that was the factor in his decision. Liggins was also a late choice and I don't know if we even offered him. Don't we have the top receiver in La, Travis Dural coming? We have a top 10 class and meet specific needs. As you said with some Feb 1 surprises things could be sweet.
I just looked at 4 services (Rivals, ESPN, MaxPrep, and Scout) and the only one we weren't rated 13 or lower on was Scout, who ranked this present class at 7. Even with them, we have only 1 player (OLB @ #94) on their Top 100 list. The top 5 schools on their list each have 6 recruits in the Scout Top 100? Even though we all know these rankings are, at best, an inexact science we have been in the top 5 year in, year out for quite some time now. I hope we have some nice surprises on signing day. I also, hope we can continue to turn some lightly regarded players into studs (ie TM, Claiborne, Blackwell). But this isn't where we're used to being is what I'm saying, and it should not feel like this after playing for the NC! The players you named as "losses" never committed to us in the first place. Keil, however, was a loss because he was committed. I'm not sure what the real reason was he didn't come because excuses seemed to cover the spectrum. I am glad we have been able to retain the Top WR in Louisiana. We also need to have someone come in and replace the height advantage RR gave us. Hope we can get that 6'4" 5* JUCO WR! And all indications were that Howard was going to visit. He was almost drooling to come here before our NCG showing. In a video that circulated on the internet he was clearly an LSU prospect (maybe even lean), he said that if he liked what he sees during his visit he may commit right then. However, as we all know, he ended up not even visiting. No matter what, if we take care of business next season and play to our strengths to the very end, we should be fine for the year because we are loaded. And I have every reason to believe lessons were learned this year that will benefit us next year!
Kiel broke down in the airport. Family and home won out. Tracy Howard was pumped up by fans but always a long shot. We might of gotten a visit if his recruiter wasn't hired to go to Illinois.
Well you get the gist of what I am saying, thank goodness Saban can't put players on the swim and diving teams like Bryant used to.
devils always in the details, isn't it? nice info that puts the situation in more reasonable perspective for those who feel the sky is falling after the NCG. i'll admit, Kiel's change of heart had me feeling the game impacted his decision, but your comments here make it seem it was more about leaving home. maybe a combo of both, who knows.
my humble opinion only, but how could a young qb prospect witness the beatdown, and total failure of our offense, with no adjuststment and feel confident in his ability to perform under similar circumstances. certainly, the home state won out over the product we displayed in the BCSNCG. ST
Bhelm, If I remember correctly, you said back in December basically that you would believe it when you saw him on campus. It was always a long-shot. :geaux:
