Toliver has been more successful than X-man up to this point, even with as little as Toliver has accomplished. X-man was speed without any idea how to utlize it effectively on a football field....he just appeared clueless.
Agreed. We've been stuck with only 3 scholarship QB's on our roster for some time and it will be nice to have that position stocked heading forward. With Lee, Hatch, Jefferson, Sheppard and Garrett, we don't have to "press" about finding QB's to groom. We'll have a nice blend of talent, blend of different strengths (duel-threat guys like Hatch, Jefferson and Shep and then the pure pocket-passers like Lee and Garrett) to develope over the years. Personally, I LIKE having multiple QB's with multiple talents (duel-threat vs pocket) as it makes our offense that more unpredictable. If we only had running QB's, gameplanning for an opponent is easier because they only have to gameplan for one specific type of offense. But give the opponent something to think about when we are able to roll out at a moment's notice, and they have to spend extra time in practice preparing for "what ifs".
Speaking of Duplessis....what happened to him? I didn't see him listed on the roster....is he even on the team??
Really??? I heard the opposite about a week ago. He is still in close contact with the staff and is assisting in coaching his HS team.
It was a while back I remember hearing it was possible due to tight numbers, but I don't know how reliable that information was.
one that I loved that did not pan out was Antonio Robinson out of Winnfield, La. I was not excited about the signing of Trindon Holliday. Then there was talk about him being grey shirted and that was further indication to me that this undersized kid would never sniff the field. Also I was not excited about the recruitment of Kyle Anderson out of Texas, Dickson and the other TE, Lott?, (from Brairwood Highschool in Birmingham). They were all 3 signed in back to back classes and I was not excited about any of them. At least I got 2 out of 3 right on that one. And I was not sold on Al Woods as a big time recruit. Generally I am always concerned about huge linemen that come from smaller schools. They can just physically dominate based on their size alone, and it is hard to project how they will compete against equally gifted players every week.
And who thought that Charles Scott was the blue chipper in his class? I'd say, let the coaches do what they do better than antbody here---evaluate talent! Texsport
For all the hype he got, I did not think Harvey Williams met his potential. His numbers ended up being okay, but in my mind, I would label him a bust compared to the hype. His running style was comparable to Eric Dickerson (upright and fast) coming out of HS, but he ended up being simply a fast guy who could not get the tough yards. His knee injury probably really affected his progress, unfortunately. Also, Jamie Howard was a frustrating talent - don't recall what his rating was going in. Herb Tyler was a very pleasant surprise in my mind. I thought he, and Craig Davis, both of O. Perry Walker, surprisingly, had great careers at LSU and were under the radar for me.
Sorry for going way back. I forgot the original post was asking about this year and last. '07 - agree with Duplessis, and Shaw (probably its just the name Greg Shaw is somewhat unexciting to begin with). Thought Prater would contribute. "08 - agree with Williford, but has potential. At first, was not excited about Willie Ferrell, but have read some things that really suggest he will be an excellent college LB. Same for Garrett; not excited at first, but now it looks like he looks like a good balance choice with sig. ability and potential. Obviously, concerned about Helton, but hopefully that will pan out. Would love to see C. Michael come on board, but I am much more excited about Pratt than I was originally. Pratt and Ford are very promising.
