Are there any recruits in this class that you aren't excited about? Any guys that you don't expect to make an impact? What about from the past few years? I'm talking about ones you don't see making a big impact - never becoming true starters, high draft picks, etc. I believe that every recruit we get has the potential to be great, but some of them seem more destined for it & some of them just don't get a lot of hype.
For me, from this year's class, Williford is the only guy I'm not excited about. He has a very high ceiling, but he's raw right now & it doesn't give me great confidence that both in-state programs passed on him. I admittedly have not seen much of him & I have no problem with him being in this class. I'm just not excited about him. I also considered Helton, as it is tough to be excited about a JUCO punter, but I think he'll be All-SEC, so I excluded him.
Last year, I was not excited about Pratt, St. Julien, Shaw, Lonergan, or Duplessis. Pratt is a guy I thought was solid & would be a good player - I just saw a relatively low ceiling on him. Same with St. Julien & Duplessis. I could see these guys being starters for us, but not All-SEC or high draft picks. Lonergan was a guy that I just never paid much attention to. I'm not sure if it was just a lack of attention to him by Rivals/Scout, timing of his commitment, or what... but I honestly kind of forgot he was in the class. Shaw did not have a lot of other big time offers, and he looked like a take based on position need rather than undeniable talent, which I'm not a fan of.
Last year: Rockey Duplessis Kellen Theriot This year: Chris Williford and still not excited about Chris Garret dont know why though
I never expected Jacob Hester to be anything more than a glorified Tommy Banks. One of the motivating reasons behind that line of thinking is that players from Evangel just never seem to pan out. I didn't think that Jesse Daniels or Chevis Jackson would amount to much. I think everyone expected Justin Vincent to perform well before moving onto the NFL. Same for Ally Broussard. I was very excited over Lavelle Hawkins' signing as he was a real playmaker in High School. Derrick Odom and Charles Deas turned out to a disappointing end as well. RP is probably the most obvious choice though...
I agree on Hester, except I thought he'd be a darn good LB:lol: Agree on Odom as well as I thought he would be a monster LB. Deas I'm not counting since he isn't here like Loadholt. Daryl Johnson would be number one in that category for me. And in another similar category I'd have to include Amp Hill, I still think he would have been tremendous had he not had such a devastating knee injury. I think Craig Davis surprised a lot of us and of all the highly touted WR's we've gotten in this decade I put my money on him being the best way back when he was being recruited. He was quicker in all of his routes then every receive I've seen film on. Amp Hill and he were my 2 favorites. The LB from Holy Cross Ryan Willis, back in 2002 I think, was one guy I thought was a real stretch but he worked hard and made a few big plays for us down the stretch of his senior season at DE. Luke Sanders never appeared to be as good as the reports we got on him although he ended up having a nice career. When he came out he was supposed to be a 4.5 guy and was already well known for breaking all kinds of weight room records at W. Monroe, which he supposedly did at LSU as well. Kyle William played way above my expectations even though I thought he'd be pretty good. Coming in and cracking the starting lineup as a true freshman then going on to have such a great career exceeded my expectations. I'll end by stating I thought J.D. Lott was going to end up being someone special, but as a LB or DE. He evidentally didn't blossom as I and the coaches thought he would.
yes, that's got to be it. I seem to remember him questioning the film on Prater and the angle they were using making it look way more impressive than it actually was. I think it was Prater.
